Season 1 of 9-1-1 is shaky at best. The show had no structure, no sense of organization, the character development was shoddy and none of the relationships were built up properly. Season 2 jumps right in and honestly the first episode of season 2 is about 1000X better then anything that was produced in season 1.
Athena and Bobby are seeing each other and they are adorable. They actually have chemistry and they play off each other really well.
Eddie joins the team, and that makes Buck super salty because he’s used to being the young, hot one. Now you can not tell me that these two men aren’t gay. There is so much tension and this is literally an enemies to lovers storyline. Also they are both twinks. There is absolutely no possible way that these men aren’t hot for each other. They have more chemistry together then Buck has ever had with any of the women he’s been on screen with.
The narration is back but it just got picked up by a different character, I still think that was a bad decision especially considering that this and Grey’s are on the same network.
This show has a lot of 2-3 part episodes and I think that that's an interesting concept but it really messes up the flow timeline wise. Like some of these events happen in rapid succession, we will spend 3 episodes on 1 day and then the next episode will be like a week later? It's really weird and choppy.
“The Oxford dictionary defines…” really Ryan, that is your narration? That’s really the writing that we went with? Sad, really really sad. Pretty sure everyone that has ever written anything ever has done better than that.
The entire firehouse taking care of Eddie’s kid is the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. The whole show could just be this. I could watch an entire series of a firehouse raising this perfect baby boy.
I guess I should mention that another new character this season is Buck’s sister who he got a job as a police dispatcher.
We got a hint at the timeline when Chim goes to the doctor. His rebar incident was 10 months ago, Athena and Bobby have been together for 4 months-ish meaning most of season 1 happened over the course of 4-6 months because there was a bit of a time jump between season 1 and season 2.
I mentioned that season 1 was shorter probably because it premiered mid season, but most of the seasons are 18 episodes which is still slightly shorter than traditional network seasons. That said I think 18 episodes on a network perfectly fixes the problem of 22 episode seasons (exhausted writers room, too much filler, really weak episodes about 25% of the time, storyline burnout) and fixes the problems of streaming service seasons (too plot drive, not enough character development, rushed emotional development). 10-18 episodes actually seems to be the winning formula, if nothing else 9-1-1 seems to have cracked the code on season length.
Buck got Eddie help with childcare!!!!! Tell me right now that they aren’t in love…These men are GAY and no one will ever convince me otherwise.
Angela Bassett is so gorgeous it's insane…She is not TV pretty, she is movie star, goddess level gorgeous and it is very distracting.
I'm so sorry but there being a “ghost calls 9-1-1” episode where Jennifer Love Hewitt is the dispatcher is actually hilarious.
Eddie and his wife reunite but I don’t see that ending well. This chick is a flight risk. No way she doesn’t leave her family again. Also he’s gay sooo.
This lady is holding up LA traffic, but it's a love story and everyone cheers at it's resolution…I am convinced these writers have never even been to LA because no one who lives and drives here would be cheering…doesn’t really matter what the reason is. Traffic already sucks. We ain't cheering for anyone who made it worse.
Buck’s reaction to Chim and Maddy being so close is hilarious. He’s had an adorable transformation since Abby left. He was kind of always a very sweet, soft boy but now that he knows what a real relationship is he is being so intentional and thoughtful, or at least attempting to be.
I like seeing our people’s origin stories, and how they came together. We get Hen, Bobby, and Chim’s stories of how they got started with the department this season and they are all great. I really love Henrietta and there is so much bullshit surrounding women firefighters that I really loved watching her push back.
The little elf helper thinking Eddie and Buck are a couple is giving me life. Also Buck just goes with it because he loves Eddie and GAY. Bobby and Athena are just so fucking cute, their getting married and I love it very much.
OH NO MADDY’S HUSBAND FOUND HER. VERY BAD. VERY VERY BAD. And to make matters worse, Chim is hanging out with him because he has no idea who he is. I am really hoping this has a happy ending, meaning this abusive ex gets his ass kicked by Maddy and her firefighter brother.
Poor Bobby, Athena’s family is crazy. Her mom is wildly out of line, and Athena deserves better than that. Good for Bobby for sticking up for his woman.
Maddy is missing and Chim is in surgery. I am very anxious. Well at the very least the show has succeeded in getting me emotionally invested in these characters. The whole first season was a little shitty and poorly thought out. But the writing in the second season is so much better. I am most definitely bought in now. I love Maddy and Chim a lot and I know he lives and they get married and all of that but I am still very tense as this storyline plays out. I love her. I love that she saves herself. She is such a fighter and I love love love love her so much. This arc not being the season finale was definitely a choice. Episode 14 definitely feels like a season premiere so it just feels really awkward coming off a very dramatic and dark arc.
This very unnecessary tension between Michael and Bobby is so weird. It's making me hate Michael. You are a grown man sir, take your insecurities and shove them up your ass there is 0 reason to take that shit out on Bobby. We know that as an adult you either internalize your emotional shit or you go to therapy right? Making your emotional damage other people's problems makes you an asshole.
According to the ratings season 2 is the best season, or at the very least the most watched and not by a small margin. Season 2 had over 2 million more views then the next highest watched season, up 3 million views from season 1. Also I was right about the premiere date and season length, all seasons with 18 episodes premiered in the normal fall lineups in September. The pilot season and season 4 (which came in at 14 episodes) premiered in January and the final season premiered in March and came in at 10 episodes. Validating to know that I occasionally know what I am talking about. Season 1’s structural and development problems can also be attributed to the fact that they only had 1 staff writer, and every episode was written by someone different. This is horrible for character development and continuity. Whereas in season 2 the same staff writer works with a much smaller pool of circulating writers. And almost everyone who wrote for season 2, wrote multiple episodes. There was also more creator involvement in the writers room.
