I remember the first time played Street Fighter II at the arcade. I briefly glanced over the pictures of fighters, excited to see that there was a woman available to select. I loved being able to fight as someone I could relate to, and I always picked her. Chun Li wasn’t weak; she was equal to the men she fought against. She had special moves designed for her, including her powerful kick. I felt that she could do anything the men in the game could do, and I was right. She’s gone on to be more iconic than any of the men in the game, with her being featured and referenced in other media.

More Than a Game
My first game console was a Nintendo NES, I was around three or four years old, and I’d sit cross-legged on the carpeted floor in our living room with my grandmother. To this very day, I still remember the feel of that controller in my hands and the glee I felt watching Mario jump over those turtles, grow from those mushrooms, and get his beloved Princess Peach. It’s hard to believe that that was thirty years ago.

What it’s like being a gamer girl
Many people may think it’s not a big deal to be a female that play games on a console , however it’s a lot of fun . Guys hate losing to females , they’ll even message me and say I’m no good just because they lost to me ! When you have a mic and start talking some guys go crazy ! They can’t believe they’re talking to a female . I’ve gotten really good at it the first couple of weeks my boyfriend got me the console . Growing up my brothers had consoles and they would always say I couldn’t play because it’s not something girls should do , but man were they wrong . Being a gamer girl is more than being a gamer girl , it makes you feel like a bad girl lol if that makes sense. DECEIT - Why Girl Gamers Aren't Welcomed
I have been a member of the online gaming world since the first “Cow Box” (READ: Gateway Computer) found a home in our Upper West Side apartment when I was 16 years old. To put it in perspective, that was the year 1999. Ancient, right? It was a literal marvel to me that after listening to the cacophony of electronic sounds that signaled your AOL internet connection being established, I could cruise the world wide web. Of course, these were the glory days of sites that resembled a black sheet of construction paper littered with oddly spinning cartoon characters and neon words…but none of that mattered. We were connected to something larger than ourselves. We were connected to each other while absent in body. We rode a highway filled with information that could be accessed by mere keystrokes. Entertainment possibilities were expanded to epic proportions in a swiftly evolving creature that crawled through wires and over airwaves.

My Worst Gaming Experience Ever
Dear Vocal Readers, Oh, the gaming community, what a lovely mess of amazing people mixed in with attention-loving assholes. That may sound harsh if you aren't used to the typical gaming atmosphere, but if you have played online games you have most likely seen the toxicity that spews from the keyboards. So, imagine the horrible environment that already exists, and then imagine being a girl on top of that. I remembered my first few experiences gaming with my microphone on and how if anything I expected that the others playing might actually be nicer to me because of my gender. Boy was I wrong. Yes, there are some of those guys that have been labeled as "Simps" but the majority turn against you. I could tell you about how I've been told to cheat on my boyfriend because he would never know or how someone who I thought was a friend ended up participating in the harassment as well (which was such a bummer), but I have saved my very best story for you all.
