Is the Flea Market and Found In Raid Healthy for Tarkov?
Recently, there has been an on-going discussion online about Tarkov, the flea market, and found in raid. All components to this game that have been divisive since they were introduced years ago. Band-aids to problems deeply rooted in the game’s ecosystem and functionality. The question of should these mechanics be removed is simply not a deep enough question to ask. There are too many layers in this problem that spirals out of control the moment you begin to think about it on a deeper level. For the longest time, Nikita and BSG were very steadfast about these mechanics not going anywhere. Especially the flea market. They made their bed and slept in it. However, as things have gotten rather.... tumultuous recently for BSG, curiously enough, Nikita has been more open to potentially adjusting these features for the future of the game. To what extent exactly, we’re not entirely sure, but these questions are still good to ask regardless. Everyone has a different opinion of the flea market and found in raid; some want it to stay because it is so integral to the game, especially considering there are other mechanics in the game built around the flea and FIR. While others want it gone so we can get those early Tarkov feelings back once again. It’s a tough position to be in as a developer. No matter what you do, people are going to be upset. So today I wanted to look at these features a little more closely and try to dissect the pros and cons of both keeping them around as well as removing them from the game. Again, it’s just a conversation; and while I will add my own personal interjections on the matter, at the end of the day, this is BSG’s game. They have the final say as to the mechanics that stay or get axed. So, keep that in mind as we go through this discussion.

There’s Only One Way to Increase Tarkov’s Performance
There aren’t many games like Tarkov out there. It requires not just a lot out of you, the player, but also the equipment you are running, especially your PC. This game has had its fair share of performance issues over the years. And to be brutally honest, it still does. As the scope of the game has gotten bigger, and BSG’s ambitions with the game grew alongside that, so too did the requirements necessary to run the game effectively. The older maps and locations around Tarkov are mostly optimized, but Streets is still the main problem out of all the maps in the game. The sheer size of the map compounded with the fact it has already gotten one expansion and there are plans for at least one more, means the map is just so large and filled with items that most PCs are going to struggle playing it. Even offline raids with no AI scavs spawning in, the map doesn’t perform well.

Tarkov is a game that has what are called wipes. Moments in the game's life where either a large content update is being dropped large enough to require everyone to start over to properly test the new features, or enough time has passed that the current game state needs to be reset. Depending on how long you’ve played Tarkov you most likely have experienced at least one wipe. You’ve also most likely seen all the memes about when’s wipe? Unique Ways to Play Tarkov if You're Bored
After playing Tarkov for as long as some of us have, the game can sometimes begin to lose its luster. Wipes always help reignite the excitement for the game; new mechanics, maps, weapons, gear. On top of having to start over once more. But once you have wiped with the game enough times, and you begin the process of starting the same quests over and over again, even those can begin to feel stale. The monotony of redoing the exact same quests in the same order can really be a drag. We got a small break this wipe with the release of Ground Zero and having to start there now instead of Customs. But again, it’s only 6 quests at the start. To be fair, Ground Zero is a solid map, and can now be played post level 20, for some spicy PvP encounters. But if you’re someone who has played for years and has become desensitized and bored with the current Tarkov, you’re not alone. A ton of players feel this after the game wipes. In fact, it’s typical for the game to surge with players soon after a wipe, and then slowly overtime, the amount of people playing usually tapers off, before surging again next wipe. So, if you are still playing Tarkov, because you are trying to enjoy it, you might just need a different way of engaging with the game to help bring the spark back before the next major update. I’m going to propose some different ideas and ways of playing Tarkov that aren’t too far-fetched for most players should they feel inclined. None of these ideas are wholly original; many people already engage with Tarkov in these ways, but perhaps it's your first-time hearing about them. So, give them a shot and see if it reinvigorates your desire to play the game.
