'Spider-Man' PS4
For many years, Marvel has struggled to get a foot in the door when it comes to the gaming industry. While having major successes with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they had failed to set up a gaming counterpart worthy of their prestige. Ever since the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum in 2009, DC with a little help from Rocksteady studios has always excelled within this realm. DC’s reign, however, ended on September 7, 2018 with the release of Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4; due to the simplicity of the game's title, many fans referred to the game as "Marvel’s Spider-Man" which bolstered Marvel's foothold within the community and showed just how much faith they had in both Spider-Man and Insomniac Games, the developer behind Marvel’s Spider-Man.

How 'Spider-Man' (PS4) Revived the Superhero Genre
Now, I understand that everyone is discussing this new exclusive, praising it for the most part because of its solid storytelling to its addicting gameplay, but how could you not? In recent years we've had the misfortune of playing a slew of Spider-Man games that were only created to ride off the success of the films, none of which were made with the love and care to attention that Spider-Man for PS4 clearly shows. Judging from the reviews I'm not the only one who believes this, with Gamespot giving it a 9 out of 10, IGN rating it an 8.7, and Metacritic compiling all scores to give it an 87 out of 100, which raises a new question. Why is this Spider-Man game doing better than the others, and how does this game shine light on the Superhero genre in the video game world?

Why Buy an Xbox One in 2018?
I recently upgraded my graphics card in my PC. I figured it needed an update from the trusty GTX 750 Ti I'd been using for years. So now, I'm officially a member of current gen graphics, even if it's the lowest end of modern graphics with the 1050 Ti. As I was playing Killer Instinct, an absolutely fantastic fighting game which was originally an Xbox One exclusive, it suddenly dawned on me that there wasn't really a reason to play the Xbox One that was nestled away in my brother's bedroom.

'Monster Rancher': A Long Forgotten Classic
When I was five or six years old, I would watch my brothers stare at a screen for hours at a time, playing whatever video game they had on their PlayStation. Sometimes I would get drinks of water when it was well past my bedtime, just to watch them play. They had every classic playstation game you could find: Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy, Legend Of Dragoon, and my favorite game of all, Monster Rancher.

'Scarface: The World Is Yours'
Initially sceptical when I first picked up Scarface: The World is Yours for Playstation 2, I was preparing myself for some nonsense developers were trying to pass for a game. Movie licensed games have a bad history, and I was wary that this latest incarnation was going to destroy my memory of a fantastic movie. The game was a pleasant surprise, though, sporting decent graphics, solid gameplay, and excellent voice acting. I believe this title is going to be a desired addition to most retro gamers' collections as it is testimony to the quality of the Playstation 2. For those who have not seen the film, you play as Tony Montana, a Cuban convict turned drug lord who has been sent on a boat from Cuban to the United States. The events of the game take place after the film, you get to play through the film's ending to change what originally happened. This initial level is pretty awesome, Tony's mansion is just like it is in the film and to play through this scene is truly epic. For those who have not seen the end of the movie, Tony is being attack by an army of Colombian gangsters at his Miami mansion. Armed with a machine gun and explosives, Tony goes a coke fuelled rampage from the vantage point of his office.

'Fahrenheit'
Fahrenheit is the game that probably paved the way for cinematic choice based games like Heavy Rain. This action/adventure game may have been missed by many PlayStation 2 and Xbox owners. The game actually won several awards and was later published for the PC. The game goes by two names; the first is Fahrenheit which is because of the drastic weather changes during the course of the game. The alternate name was Indigo Prophecy which was due to the supernatural occurrences of a dark foretold event within the game's story.

'The Granstream Saga'
Every once in a while, I’ll talk about a hidden gem; I’ll discuss a game I was fortunate enough to discover as a kid, but sometimes, there are gems among gems. The Granstream Saga is definitely in that category, but this is not a game I played as a kid. Though the game was released for Play Station in North America way back in 1998, which means I was 15-years-old, I did not discover this game until late 2016.
