Life Simulator Games Keep Me Sane
I'm an avid fan of video games, any genre. I've played first person shooters, RPGs, MOBAs, action, adventure, horror - you name it, I've probably played it. But I've always held a special place in my heart for the calmer games, the ones that mimic real life, but without the boring bits.

Our best gaming lives
Set the scene, It's the age of World of Warcraft, expansion, Wrath of the lich king. Long after dinosaurs roamed the planet but long before we had flying cars, colonised Jupiter's moons and transferred our consciousness into digital devices so we no longer had to scroll down endless Facebook feeds. I was having the time of my life, no responsibilities all the free time I could swing a tin of Pringles and a bottle of coke at. I would wake up at the crack of noon, stick world of Warcraft on and I would usually have a few friends on, by the time the evening came around the whole team were one, we would be chatting away and doing a few dungeons, but mostly chatting. When the raid lock timers were up we would attempt the raids, then back to more chatting. These were some of the greatest moments in my gaming life, moments that to this day I can never recreate no matter how hard I try. By the time the new expansion was being released a lot of people had got bored and gone on to other things until there was only a hand full of us left, then came the literal cataclysm, the expansion and the end of the glory days for me and my in-game friends. Not one of them carried on with the next expansion, the group was well and truly disbanded. Some of my friends had kids, jobs and other responsibilities and I was going through my own thing and could no longer put in the hours I once had.

Death Stranding, Covid, and a people struggling to find meaning in a disaster.
Death by Covid is a slow painful affair. About 2-5% of Covid patients die 2 weeks to several months after positive diagnosis is confirmed. Usually, by the time they’re dead, hospitals have tried everything from amputations to ventilators to keep these patients alive. Covid lowers the amount of oxygen in the blood, forcing the body to cut off oxygen supply to limbs and non-vital functions. Sepsis, infection, and decaying tissue forced many Covid patients to endure traumatic and painful surgeries, surgeries that often proved fruitless. Talk to anyone, and chances are they know someone who succumbed to Covid-19. Never before in our nation’s modern history has one affliction claimed such a vast number of human lives in such a short span of time. By comparison the opioid epidemic claimed 500,000 lives over the span of 20 years. People of all ages, nationalities, races, and religious affiliations crumbled under the weight of severe Covid infection.

Games and Transmedia
The modern market is filled with debatable concepts and transmedia is one of them. There is plenty of discussion around the term, its distinguishing features, and use cases but the fact remains – it is difficult to launch a selling product without engaging transmedia.

The Unspoken truths
By: Tonya McLean Video games have been a part of our culture for decades; the industry as a whole is over 70 years old. The first game was created in 1958. Most games have been claimed to take place in the world of fiction or fantasy others based on real things like Sports or Simulations. For years this claim has given parents no reason to believe that games wouldn’t have real life facts included in them. However, what the parents didn’t realize is that even though games are based in the world of fantasy and fiction that fact was mostly for the story, not the actions that took place in the game; sometimes the story has real life in it as well. For example, the Legend of Zelda series back story is that the world was created from 3 goddesses each represented by a triangle. There are parallels to religion and under those beliefs how the world was created. In the first of the Tomb Raider remake series the team gets stranded on an island in the Dragon’s Triangle in Japan and there really is a Dragon’s Triangle in Japan. The survival strategies in all three of those games are real life facts as well. There’s one fact that expands all video games. That fact is that the player needs determination and problem solving skills in order to beat the game. Such characteristics and skills are needed in order to make it in life.
