Suryakumar Yadav Gaining Support from Virat Kohli? Former Australian Cricketer Weighs In
You know the saying, the more, the merrier? Well, that may not be true in Suryakumar Yadav’s case. Apparently, there are two cricketing superstars who are rooting for the Mumbai batsman to do well — Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. And while that seems enough support to win matches on its own, it might not be as much as he gets from Indian fans and fellow team-mates at the moment. Still, it’s good to know he has influential support from his countrymen, don’t you think?
Suryakumar Yadav is an Indian cricketer who has represented the country in all three formats of the game. He played his first One Day International against Sri Lanka in August 2015 and his first Test match against West Indies in November 2016. He also made his Twenty20 International debut for India against Zimbabwe on 7 July 2018. The left-handed batsman was a part of the Indian Under-19 cricket team that won the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in Australia. He also captained the Mumbai Indians side to victory in IPL 2017, beating Rising Pune Supergiants by one run in the final.
The Indian cricket team has had an impressive year in their home country. This includes a win against their arch-rival Pakistan, the first time in 19 years that the Pakistani team was defeated. The victory happened during the T20 series and it was the first time India won a T20 match against Pakistan since 2012. Other wins this year include being undefeated in all of their matches at home and taking down Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Bangladesh with relative ease. The captain of India's cricket team is Suryakumar Yadav, who has been receiving support from other players on his team as well as outside sources.
What does this mean for Team India?
The addition of Suryakumar Yadav to Team India will be a great asset. While he is not as well-known as his fellow teammates, he is still a very talented player who has shown that he has what it takes to play at the highest levels of cricket. One thing’s for sure: with the support of two such stars like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni on his side, things are looking up for Suryakumar Yadav!
Can Suryakumar Yadav help turn things around for India?
It's a topic that's been widely debated in the cricketing world: can someone other than a specialist batsman help turn things around for India, who have struggled since the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar?
Former Australian player Dean Jones thinks he might have the answer in Suryakumar Yadav, who has shown promise with both bat and ball.
I think Surya is going to be one of those players who could be a very important player for India, Jones told ESPNcricinfo. He is one guy I see that could come into the side and do well.
Jones believes that the 26-year-old will be able to provide balance to an Indian team that has often relied too heavily on their specialist batsmen.
Will he be able to make an impact in the upcoming matches?
It's not been a smooth ride for India so far in the 2019 World Cup. With only a few matches left, people are getting increasingly anxious about whether India will make it to the final rounds. Suryakumar Yadav is one player who has been working hard to make an impact in this World Cup. The batsman scored just four runs against South Africa and was dismissed by Imran Tahir on Sunday night.
