OSRS Fire Cape Guide - RSorder
How to Defeat Jad the Easy Way

Old School RuneScape has had so many updates since then that it's now easier than ever to get your very first OSRS Fire Cape. If you've struggled with the Fight Caves in the past or feel like 62 waves just isn't worth the grind only to die to Jad at the end, this updated guide is for you.
Today, we'll cover everything you need to know to secure your Fire Cape in 2025: new practice methods, gear setups, plugins, and the strategies that make Jad much less intimidating.
Practice Jad Without 62 Waves
One of the biggest barriers for new players has always been the time investment. Spending over an hour clearing waves, only to die to Jad's prayer flicks, is frustrating. Thankfully, there's now a way to practice Jad directly without replaying the whole cave.
Here's how:
1. Switch to a Speedrunning World
- Open your world selection menu and choose a speedrunning world (marked with a light-blue star).
- These worlds act like alternate save files, so don't panic when you don't see your normal gear or stats.
2. Set Up a Speedrun
- Open your quest log → medium section → Beneath Cursed Sands.
- Select Setup Speedrun. This teleports you to Sophanem with high stats, solid gear, and even a Fire Cape.
3. Enter the TzHaar City
- Teleport to the Fight Pit via the grouping interface.
- Unequip your Fire Cape, use it on the TzHaar guard at the hot vent, and you'll gain access to deeper areas of Mor Ul Rek.
4. Challenge Jad Directly
- Speak to TzHaar-Ket-Rak inside the city. He offers challenges where you can fight one Jad (or two if you're adventurous).
- This is an Inferno-style Jad—stronger than the Fight Caves version—so if you can handle him here, the real Jad will feel easier.
5. Bypass Teleport Cooldowns
- If you die, you'll respawn at Lumbridge. Normally, the Fight Pit teleport has a 20-minute cooldown.
- Simply re-select Setup Speedrun in your quest log to reset the timer and jump back in.
This method allows you to practice Jad's mechanics as many times as you want, without wasting hours.
Getting to the Fight Caves
Once you're ready to attempt your first real Fire Cape, here are the easiest ways to reach the Fight Caves entrance:
- Amulet of Glory → Karamja: One of the fastest methods, then run west to the volcano.
- Brimhaven Docks: Accessible via Ardougne, Camelot, or any POH teleport to the docks, then run east.
- Minigame Teleport: Use the TzHaar Fight Pit teleport if it's off cooldown for an instant trip.
Climb into the Karamja volcano, enter the TzHaar city, and bank nearby to prepare for your run.
Recommended Gear Progression
You don't need max gear for your first Fire Cape. Here are three progression setups to aim for:
Budget Setup
- Magic Shortbow (i) + Rune Arrows
- Archer Helm (Fremennik Trials)
- Ava's Accumulator (Animal Magnetism)
- Blue Dragonhide body, chaps, vambraces
- Snakeskin Boots
- Amulet of Glory
- Explorer's Ring (any tier)
Mid-Tier Setup
- Hunter's Sunlight Crossbow + Moonlight Bolts (requires 50 Hunter, level 66 Ranged)
- Amulet of Fury (or stick to Glory)
- Book of Law (Horror from the Deep + Armadyl pages)
- Red Dragonhide or Barrows Gloves if unlocked
- Ava's Accumulator, Archer Helm
High-End Setup
- Toxic Blowpipe with Adamant+ darts
- God Dragonhide + Coif
- Amulet of Fury (or better)
- God Dragonhide Boots
- Barrows Gloves
- Ava's Accumulator / Assembler
Inventory Setup
- 3x Ranging Potions
- 1x Bastion Potion
- 9x Saradomin Brews
- 3x Super Restores
- 10x Prayer Potions
- 1–2x Prayer Regeneration Potions (optional but powerful)
Prayer Regen Potions slowly restore 66 prayer points per dose over time, making them great for long runs.
Useful RuneLite Plugins
1. FC Spawn Predictor
- Shows current and next monster spawns for each wave.
- Essential for learning wave rotations.
2. Ground Object Hider
- Removes the annoying cave floor texture that strains your eyes during long runs.
3. NPC Highlight
- Allows you to tag monsters, making it easy to track priority targets like rangers and majors.
Monster Breakdown
- Bats (10 HP, max hit 4): Drain prayer per hit, deal with them quickly.
- Blobs (20 HP, max hit 7): Split into smaller blobs on death. Use them for safespots.
- Rangers (40 HP, max hit 13): Accurate—pray Ranged.
- Melees (80 HP, max hit 25): Heal nearby enemies below 50% HP. Keep them stuck on rocks.
- Majors (160 HP, max hit 54): Always start waves with Mage prayer.
- Jad (250 HP, max hit 97): Uses all three styles; healers spawn at 50% HP.
Safe Spotting Basics
- Italy Rock Method: Use the large rocks around the arena to trap melees and blobs.
- NPC Blocking: Use rangers, majors, or blobs as “walls” to keep melees away.
- Wave Control: Always know what's spawning next with FC Spawn Predictor so you can position early.
Jad Mechanics
- Back legs rise → Magic attack (pray Mage when animation starts).
- Ground slam → Ranged attack (pray Range immediately).
- Healers spawn at 50%: Three main strategies:
1. Lure healers behind Italy Rock and kill one by one.
2. Run through Jad with melee prayer to block healer attacks.
3. Tank healers directly if you're confident and geared.
Always camp Ranged prayer as default since magic gives an audio cue, but range damage is instant.
Final Tips
- Take breaks: Logging out after a wave pauses progress. Do this before Jad if needed.
- Use practice worlds: Don't waste hours failing; practice prayer switches on Inferno Jad first.
- Don't panic on healers: Even if Jad regains HP, your only goal is surviving the switches.
With sufficient preparation, patience, and practice, your first Fire Cape is absolutely achievable and can save OSRS gold - even in 2025 and you're still a mid-level account.
Good luck in the caves, and may TzTok-Jad fall to your prayers and arrows!
