My Review of "The Season Pass for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown"
Should you buy the season pass for Ace Combat 7? I'll let you know what I thought of it.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Season Pass came out quite a while ago. Let me start by saying if you haven't played Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, you have to do yourself a favor and play it. I absolutely loved this game and finished it in the first two weeks I had it. I was a little weary about buying the season pass though because I wasn't sure if it was worth it. After buying the season pass I have mixed opinions.
The season pass includes 3 additional missions and 3 more planes that you never had access to before with the vanilla version of the game. First off, I bought the season pass off the PlayStation store. It was actually confusing for me because I didn't know where the content went. After I bought the season pass I assumed the new content would automatically show up in my game when I boot it up again.
I turned the game on and I couldn't find any of the additional missions or planes that I paid for. The game mentioned it was up to date and everything. I didn't know you actually have to go to the PlayStation store again and download each of the season pass extras one by one. That's really bad design for a game company especially for a console system. Everything should be automatic, I'd expect this kind of service on PC's but not on PlayStation.
So after I downloaded the three levels and the additional planes I was up and running again. The three new levels are enjoyable. It basically a small mission that concerns a new state of the art submarine that you have to destroy. They vary the missions as much as they can in Ace Combat. It's your usual fare. Mission 1 and 2 are simple enough and they're pretty good to make extra money for more planes and upgrades if you haven't gotten all of the planes and upgrades already.
The 3 new planes are pretty awesome. They're really powerful planes that make you overpowered in a lot of the missions and online. Actually the new planes made the game a lot more enjoyable for me. I don't really like difficult games. Although I have already finished Ace Combat 7 already it was fun to go through the game again with the new planes and just demolish everything as if you're a flying god.
Even playing online is pretty fun with these new planes because you have so much more control than the other players that never purchased the season pass. I guess they're trying to Nerf this by assigning restrictions to certain online games. Still the online games with no restrictions are pretty fun with these new planes. It also allows you to accumulate a lot more money to collect planes and upgrades in a much easier and fun manner.
As for the price, it's regularly $33.49 Canadian. That's pretty expensive for only 3 missions and essentially authorized cheat codes to the game. The third mission does admittedly feel like a final level of a full game but really that's half the price of the original game. I would have said that it's a no-brainer if they included new VR missions but they didn't include new VR missions to this season pass.
Luckily this season pass does go on sale for at least half price every so often. When it does go on sale I would say that it is worth it if you want to get a little more life back to Ace Combat 7. If you're like me and love Ace Combat 7 then I would say it's worth getting on sale but even I wouldn't have paid for this for full price.
Overall, I bought this season pass on sale for about $16 Canadian and I'm glad I did because it probably gave me at least 6 more hours of play of this game. I might go back and grind to get the last few planes and upgrades just to complete everything. I have to give this season pass a 6 out of 10. It's not the most robust additions in terms of DLC but it is worth getting if it's on sale.
