Mobile Apps Falsely Advertised as Play-To-Win

A list of games to avoid if you’re looking to win cash.

By Hope MartinPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

There are so, so, SO many mobile game apps out there that are advertised as "play-to-win" or "free-to-play-to-win." What does that mean exactly? It means they are played off in ads that you can play these games for free, and win real money.

In my recent phase of life, I have curiously been exploring all the play-to-win games. I have a few reasons for doing it, but mostly because I'm curious and bored, and I'm hoping that one day I will find a play-to-win app that I can actually tell people about who may need to make a quick buck.

I mean, it's not likely, but we can always try, right?

Thusfar, I have found it's much easier to list off the games that I have found you can't actually win money on - even though the ads that played for them claimed that they were able to win money. And so I've compiled a list of them here - so that you can easily see which ones to avoid altogether in one space.

I will be updating this list as I find more games that are advertised falsely. It can be confusing, irritating, and disappointing when you want to play a game to win money but find out it's a scam. So, once this list hits 10 games that are falsely advertised, I'll start a new one!

1. Plinko Carnival

This game was advertised as a game you could win a LOT of money on. When I downloaded the game, I was amused to see that there was absolutely no way to win money on this game at all. There wasn't even an option to put in your PayPal, or cash app, or anything. To be fair though, you couldn't purchase or spend money on this app either.

2. Scratch Magic

Scratch magic was advertised as a game you could win a lot of money on by scratching lottery tickets. However, when I downloaded it I realized there was no 'cash out' option in this game. Going back to their download page, at the VERY VERY bottom in little writing there's a disclaimer stating clearly they are not a game you can actually win money in. WHY they would make ad's saying you could win real money, when in their description page, you very clearly can't, is a true mystery to me.

3. Solitaire World Journey

Solitaire World Journey, while advertised as a play-to-win game, is a standard solitaire game with beautiful art and a creative way to level up. It was advertised as a game we could win cash in, but unfortunately I found that to be a falsehood. I wouldn't say the game is bad though. If you like pretty art and pretty card deck themes, it's worth the download.

4. Forest Solitaire

I haven't written a review on Forest Solitaire yet, but the important part you need to know is that: You can't win money. And you can't deposit money. It is a pretty standard solitaire game, and I downloaded it from an app that claimed you could win by playing it. When I do an article with this game in it as a review, I will link it at that time.

My 5-year-old daughter is competing in Nationals at the All American Miss Pageant in Orlando Fl, during Thanksgiving Week this year. It is being hosted with National American Miss. We are trying to raise money for hotel costs, her casual modeling outfit, her formal gown, and to submit her portfolio in a Photogenic. All money I make off of Vocal will be going straight to her Pageant.

If you are inspired by my “amazing” writing (haha!) to donate to Aylaina-Sky's pageant, please tip this story! Every dollar helps!
