Scratch Magic and Solitaire Journey: World Tour - Cringe Apps

Shady scammy “Play To Win” apps

By Hope MartinPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

In my quest to narrow down a list of “real” play to win cash” apps for the iPhone, I have come across two more that have been the biggest laugh.

I don’t usually combine reviews but these two apps didn’t survive being on my phone for more than an hour and they were both shot down on the same day. We will start with solitaire Journey: World Tour.

This game isn’t anything like advertised. There is nothing about this game that wins you cash. It’s a very generic solitaire game with the added perks that the coins you earn allow you to change your deck of card image and the background you play on. Honestly for anyone who just enjoys a solitaire app where you can enjoy scenic pictures and do daily game challenges, it isn’t a bad app. However, I downloaded it from an ad that stated you could win cash.

Moving onto the next game of Scratch Magic: Lottery Scratch, I grew frustrated with this game rather quickly. When looking in the “how to play” area it only gave rules of each individual scratch ticket, and did not mention how real cash was won.

In order to achieve higher prizes, one has to scratch a certain number of each type of lottery ticket to get to the next rank. You have to watch an ad every 4 cards. And you basically won coins every single lottery ticket.

Not only did this bore me to death, it was frustrating how the “play to win” information was nonexistent. There wasn’t anything else you could do in this app either. When you had to wait for more videos there was absolutely nothing to keep anyone involved. Not to mention not a single “cash out” button anywhere. I am going to go ahead and label this game a scam.

I’ve also noticed that the listed developer in the app download page on the iStore will give you a clue. Unless it’s a trusted name already out there in the play-to-win community, you can expect to be disappointed by these apps. It’s also important to read the reviews before downloading an app - especially if you have certain expectations of winning real money.

Both of these apps have high review rankings- but it’s what the reviews actually say that is the important part. If you read reviews on a product or an app, and all of the positive ones have the same wording, or very similar wording - you can probably bet that a lot of people were paid from sites such as upwork and fiver to write these reviews. The more reviews a product or app has, the higher they will rank when someone searches their keywords. So companies, especially ones who are grinding money out somehow (such as apps that promise you can win cash and they bombard people with ads to watch) will shell out cash to a bunch of people to review their product/app.

A sample of review wording trends to catch fake reviews.

There is no way to really stop these fake reviews- sure generally most platforms do not allow companies to pay for reviews but that doesn’t stop the nonsense. Both of these ads REAL reviews were all one star- with repetitive key words you want to look out for, such as “scam,” or “fake.” It really is the content of the reviews you want to look out for.

I hope this helped you avoid wasting any precious time with fake games, or helped you learn what to look for when trying to narrow down legitimate apps from shady scammy ones.
