The 10 Best Games of 2018 for Xbox One
Every year, the age old debate rears its ugly head: Which gaming system is better, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One? While the argument is fun to have, there's a pretty simple answer: Xbox One is unequivocally the better of the two systems.

What Pokémon Might We Meet in the Galar Region?
Pokémon fans have been ecstatic since the Pokémon Company release the info on generation eight from the Pokéball. The new games 'Pokémon Sword' and 'Pokémon Shield' are set in the new region of Galar, which has been strongly based on the UK. This is pretty standard in Pokémon as the first four regions were set on parts of Japan, Unova was based on New York, Kalos off of France and Alola used Hawaii. Along with this information on the region, the new starter Pokémon were revealed and two make clear sense for a UK themed region, but one is odd.

'Far Cry: New Dawn'
Ubisoft has decided to change things up with their Far Cry series, this time by releasing a direct sequel. Some may argue that Far Cry Primal, or Far Cry Predator where their first sequels. Really though, Predator was more of a DLC, and Primal was a prequel at the most. New Dawn, though chronological, falls in place seventeen years after the ending events of Far Cry 5 (spoilers ahead). So after the bombs dropped, everyone went underground to live for six years, then finally pop up to find a vibrant and colorful post-apocalyptic future. Let’s get into the meat and potatoes of the game, though.

True Role-Playing in 'Red Dead Redemption 2'
One of the great pleasures that has been afforded to me in my post-graduate life has been the opportunity to re-enter the world of video games. Due to a lack of time, lack of disposable income, and racking sense of guilt, anytime I wasn’t doing something directly connected to my career pursuits, I had to step away from gaming for the duration of my college career. Now (with the aid of a cheap Black Friday PS4) I have plunged back into the gaming sphere, and coming back to games in 2019 is like not seeing a movie between 1983 and 2005. I’ve been amazed with the massive leaps and bounds that have been made on technical and narrative fronts. Even through only a small handful of titles, I’ve started reengaging with one of the most fertile grounds of creativity and storytelling.

Character Growth
Last year, I was invited to join a Dungeon and Dragons campaign that my friend DMed. It seemed like fun and a way to stretch my imagination, perhaps even learn a new skill (or genre in this case). After agreeing, my friend patiently worked with me on creating a character, but that was not necessary as I ended up taking over one that had already been established. After a couple of months, I joined a new campaign and created my own character for the first time. It was a rush, even for a writer who produces more than 3,000 words a day! After a recent session, it finally dawned on me, I am no longer terrible at role-playing.

5 (Specific) Costuming Tips for Your Next LARP
If you've ever sat around a table with a character sheet and some funny-shaped dice, part of you has no doubt wondered what it would be like to play in a real fantasy world. To feel the weight of a sword in your hand as goblins charge down the path, or to sit in a darkened room with a vampire prince, making deals for the soul of the city.

Marvel's 'Spider-Man' (PlayStation 4) Review
I'll be honest, I've never been that big a fan of superheroes. I've always found their characters to be flat, obvious, and a little cliched. I've also never been a massive fan of the 'superpowers' aspect. What can I say, I prefer my protagonists to have a better backstory than 'bitten by a radioactive spider'. And, in recent years, I've found my interest in video gaming declining somewhat. Maybe it's just all those rather flat, dull, repetitive shooters I've been playing, but, apart from the Star Wars: Battlefront series, there's been little I've been excited, or even interested in. Sure, I enjoyed Battlefield 1, but, to be honest, part of me was thinking about selling up my PS4, so I wouldn't have another outlet that was a drain on my time and money. However, I'm very glad I didn't, because, after a little persuasion, I bought myself Insomniac and Marvel's Spider-Man; a game that so perfectly captures the Spider-Man universe, that it's simply a joy to play. With an engaging plot and some fantastically simple but fun game mechanics, this is a true delight, and possibly one of the strongest video games I've played in many years.
