Lark Pain
That one Jamaican Twitch Streamer I really admire

One Black Creator that I admire is the twitch streamer Lark Pain. I met him back on Mixer in late 2019 early 2020. It was right around the time that I was injured in a car wreck. I wasn’t driving, I was a passenger at the time.
After the wreck, I had a hard time moving or doing much because of whiplash. This is where Lark Pain helped me out because he was part of a discord server called “NDR”. Which stands for no disrespect. The community there is diverse and is an inspiring place. where different content creators relax and hang.
Lark Pain’s discord server was a nice place where I could hang out and still be (somewhat) social. Since, this was right at the start of when everyone had to stay home for lock-down. I also met another streamer who goes by xNomandx who told me about the artist Frank Frazetta.
Frank Frazetta was a fantasy artist who had a career spanning decades. He also suffered from two strokes that left him without the use of his right hand. He had to switch to using his left hand to draw and paint. Which is similar to what I’m going through right now. My right side was injured in a car wreck and now, I’m relearning how to draw and paint using my left hand too. It might not have been a stroke, but it had a similar outcome.
Without meeting Lark Pain and getting introduced to his discord server I wouldn’t have met the people I did. I wouldn’t have learned about Frank Frazetta and had that inspiration I needed to keep going instead of giving up on art. But once I learned about Frank Frazetta from NDR and saw that an artist could retrain themselves. I decided that I was going to as well. Since, I’ve enjoyed drawing and painting ever since I was a child. The prospect of losing that hurt more than my physical injuries.
Over the summer months in 2020 Mixer shut down, and Lark Pain was among the streamers who moved to Twitch. It was a rocky start, since most of his initial audience were people who followed him over from Mixer. I’ve been happy supporting him. As well as watching the community grow. There are more artists joining the discord now, and it feels like a real community.
Which, considering how isolating the last year has been. Really helped take the edge off the loneliness. Especially since I’m still dealing with chronic pain from cervical kyphosis I developed as a result of the wreck.
I admire Lark Pain and feel included in the community. Since I’ve been promoted to one of the moderators on the discord server and in his twitch chat. I think that having that connection has helped me feel better throughout this. I’m looking forward to seeing where Lark Pain ends up in his career. Since, he’s still a small-time streamer on Twitch.
His streams are educational too, because he helps coach people in the games he’s playing. For example, I learned from Lark Pain that you can use a melee attack to end Zenyatta’s main orb attack. Without needing to burn any cool downs. He also says why he has the character positioned where they are. Which is something I think is helpful. What seems like common knowledge to someone who’s been playing a specific game for years. Might be something that a newer player misses. This is part of the reason why I started watching Lark Pain to begin with because he does teach.
That is why I admire Lark Pain. Him and his community came into my life at the right time to help me through something difficult. I’ve felt welcomed there as part of the community ever since. I think that we need more people like that in the world.
