I Discovered A Secret In FFXIV No One Seems To Be Talking About

It's so cute, too!

I have been a long-time RPG and JRPG fan. While I still have many from the series to conquer, Final Fantasy has been a steadfast and recurring part of my growing years. When I first heard of FFXI, I had to buy it immediately. Yet, in my naivete, I did not realize differences in computer graphical abilities. Nor did I realize that you needed special hardware to play the game on PlayStation. I held onto that game for so many years and never had the chance to play it. I was dismayed when I heard that they were making another MMORPG in the series (Final Fantasy XIV), as my computer situation hadn’t improved.

Before I get any deeper, I want to premise this article by saying I am still a sprout. I am a total newbie to Eorzea. I’m still working through my first playthrough of Shadowbringers and haven’t completed the MSQ yet. And, while I may be working through the main scenario on my cute little rosey doe-eyed Au Ra, I did start to get an itch to test out the roleplaying side of Sir Yoshi P.’s masterpiece. Also, this article will contain a possible spoiler or two.

Thus, Gim Camoa was born, the endearing and lovable bun-boy (Viera). He doesn’t have much to do with the secret I discovered, but he is relevant to the story to set the scene. Although I created him with the intention of making some new roleplaying friends, I realized very quickly that his level 1 status would make it difficult for me to interact or create much immersion. (I couldn’t even enter any housing districts yet, and that is where a lot of the casual RP stuff happens!) Naturally, the best way to level quickly is to play through the main scenario questline, which I set out to do.

When I began the questline “To Guard A Guardian,” only moments within the cutscene, I noticed a very familiar pair of characters passing through the inn behind my Warrior of Light. Alphinaud and Alisae walk behind you as you are learning about your next task. When I started with my Au Ra, I began my adventure in Limsa Lominsa, so the Gridania scenes were entirely new. I had not seen this before, nor do I think it would have struck me so if I had. Needless to say, I shrieked and immediately ran to the internet to see if anyone else was talking about this detail.

I’ll admit that I did not do extensive research on the matter, but a quick scroll through the relevant search results on Reddit revealed that it is not a hot topic. I did not see one comment or post mentioning this minute detail. I was so tickled that I turned to YouTube to see if I could find a video of another player doing the quest. Sure enough, I came across a video by AyinMaiden that clearly shows the moment the pair walk by.

A beautiful moment.

Perhaps there are more interesting “secrets” to find in the cutscenes as the story progresses, but knowing how the twins grow throughout the next few expansions made me so happy to see them! These small details are but one of the many reasons I have fallen in love with this game. These moments are the ones that let you know the developers love what they are creating.

Have you noticed anything interesting like this? If you can share in a spoiler-free way, I’d love to hear it!
