Exploring Lopside and Unlocking the Lockaway Safehouse in Borderlands 4

Exploring Lopside and Unlocking the Lockaway Safehouse in Borderlands 4

By niubillPublished 4 months ago 3 min read

After leaving Moxxi’s Bottoms Up, one of the most exciting parts of Borderlands 4 is venturing into the central region of Lopside in Carcadia Burn. If you take a look at your map, you’ll soon notice a striking purple trail of Eridium heading east. This trail is like a beacon, guiding you deeper into the wild and mysterious areas the game has to offer.

Following this Eridium trail will lead you to Siltgrasp Canyon, a rugged and visually stunning environment. It’s here you’ll start to uncover the secrets scattered throughout Carcadia Burn. One of the first things you’ll stumble upon is a grapple point—an essential mechanic that truly adds to the adrenaline rush. Using the grapple, you can press onwards, scaling and navigating the environment in a smooth and dynamic way.

Continuing along this path, you’ll eventually come across a crashed segment of Callis’ ship, which ties back to an earlier mission. This piece of wreckage is not just for show; it’s a key location you can explore. Once you enter the ship, look for a bright red button facing the east door inside the room. Pressing this button opens the door, allowing you to step directly into Carcadia District within Dominion City, broadening your adventure even further.

From here, the journey keeps getting better. Move forward and look to your right for a pile of metal debris — climb it. This leads you to a wind boost, a fantastic feature that propels you skywards in a gust of wind, injecting a burst of excitement as you soar upwards. On the left at the top, you’ll find another grapple point. These grapple points are scattered cleverly along the path, making traversal feel like a natural part of the exploration.

As you continue along the linear path, you’ll eventually drop down into a cave system. This dark, atmospheric area is significant because it contains your first Fast Travel Station in Dominion, called Final Defiance. Activating this station means you’ll be able to zip back and forth across this expansive region much faster, which is a real game-changer for efficiency and exploration.

Once your companion Levaine finishes his dialogue here, follow the path down a rock slide and head east through Carcadia District. Your goal is to locate The Lockaway, one of the intriguing safehouses spread throughout the game world.

Unlocking the Lockaway Safehouse is a rewarding experience. When you arrive at The Lockaway, face the north-west wall, where you’ll be greeted by a mural of the Timekeeper. The game cleverly integrates this mural as a grapple point, inviting you to ascend the stairs and then grapple even higher. This vertical navigation feels thrilling and fits perfectly with Borderlands’ fast-paced gameplay.

At the top, you’ll discover a Data Pad resting on a table against the north wall. Picking up the Data Pad is key to opening the Lockaway as a safehouse. With it in hand, head over to the command console located across from the Golden Chest. Activating the console triggers the final steps of this side quest.

Conclude this sequence by speaking with Levaine to complete the quest and enjoy the full benefits of having The Lockaway as your new safehouse. Safehouses in Borderlands 4 are essential—they provide respawn points, storage, and places to gear up and strategize, so unlocking new ones greatly enhances the overall gameplay experience.

What I love about this part of the game is how it blends exploration, platforming, and story elements while rewarding players with useful in-game hubs. The combination of navigating tricky grapple points, searching for meaningful lore items like the Data Pad, and unlocking fast travel really keeps the gameplay engaging and fresh.
