Doki Doki Literature Club is a Japanese dating sim. It has a rather boring name but that might be because it's Japanese. It's not your average dating sim.

Loli Loli Van is a rare game that is difficult to review. It requires you to go in completely blind and without any pre-conceived expectations. This can make it difficult to decide whether to play a particular game. However, I will say this: If you're curious about the game, then I highly recommend it. The game is a little over 4-5 hours long and is completely free so you don't have to put in any effort to find out the whole story.

If you are still on the fence, and want to be convinced either way I will try my best to give you a picture of the game’s strengths.

First, the only expectation that you can have is that the game plays like any other Japanese visual novel. This includes: animated characters, minimal background music, very little animation, and still frames that are slightly more detailed for intense moments.

This is all still true, and I can understand why it is important. Visual novels of this nature have been my experience. While I understand that they can often be written well and emotionally intense, I find them boring. For me it's a form of story-telling which would be better as a book, because otherwise I spend the entire time wishing I could speed up through the bloody repetitive and hypnotic click-click-click-click of endless dialogue.

It is a testament to the strength of the Waifu library Fight Club story that I was able to complete the game and came out of it with a positive outlook.

It's the game's story that is the most compelling aspect. It was amazing. I cannot give away too much without risking spoilers, but it truly surprised me and left me in stunned silence. It is extremely emotional and emotive, with some moments that made my playing stop abruptly and cold.

While the story itself is quite impressive, with many "high" points that absolutely blew me away (and some that are truly amazing), it is mostly written in visual novel style. Sometimes the writing can also be a bit dull or frustrating. This is a very common thing about games of this nature. Character interaction and dialogue can be extremely outlandish to completely normal.AlsoIt is a total chore.

My second recommendation is that you play the game for at least two hours. Because it is a game about subverting expectation, it first has to create that expectation by pretending to be a high-school visual novel dating simulator in which you can choose and select the girl you wish to pursue from a limited selection of options. This section drags on so much that I was almost losing my patience. It's partially intentional, but I feel it is important to point out that you don't have to give up and just keep going.

This being said, there are times when the game switches back to this style at different points in the game's later stages. It can make my eyes glaze over and cause my attention to wander. This is almost certain, but I did miss important information a few times because I was blindly clicking through the dialogue.

You will be astonished when The Change(tm), comes. It hits like a ton of bricks. I was stunned and my jaw dropped open. The whole game was streamed and I spent the first hour cracking jokes, my attention waning and trying to make the game fun for myself. After The Change, I became quiet and focused more on The Change than the fact that I was recording it.

It is both impressive and unsettling, and it is simply an excellent example of story-telling. Although the game is not a horror, I disagree with the description. However, it hits some psychological notes that are unnerving.

The game is quite clever, and I don't have much else to say. It all comes down to the cheerful music that I found myself singing along to and which will sometimes just disappear when you are getting hit the hardest.

Its narrative techniques are very intelligent. They also help to convey the point it was trying to make. It invites comparisons with other visual novels, but it seems more appropriate due to its approach to the player experience.

It's possible to say that while the game isn't new, it is undoubtedly effective and thought-provoking.

The final point is that the game has a lot less choice than you might think. Only a few choices can cause branching changes in the story. This doesn't seem to be that important, given the story that the game is telling, so it is just a footnote in the review.

Overall, Baka NNani Weeb Simulator was a great read. However, it wasn't enough to make up for my dislike of the visual novel format. It felt slow and tedious towards the end. I wish that all of this boredom had been addressed at the beginning. This is why I gave it a lower score than others. It was too difficult to get started. It is a game I enjoyed and would recommend to anyone who has the desire.
