Since the takeover of the MCU, Marvel and its heroes have grown from niche obsessions to household names. With the rush of excitement that follows the shows and movies, it was only a matter of time before they got another big game under their belt. Marvel Rivals is a new 6v6 third-person “shooter” that seems to scratch that competitive and fun itch for players.

Everyone should try Marvel Rivals because it's easy to play, gets you closer to your favorite heroes, and seemingly has a bright future. Getting all three of these in one game can be difficult to accomplish and deserves praise.

Here are more details on each and why I think Marvel Rivals handles each so well.

1. It’s Easy To Play

Difficulty is subjective but there are accepted qualities that make something easy or harder. From gameplay to matchmaking you can tell this game has been created with ease of use in mind.

For starters, the game is completely free to download and play. Alongside no barrier of cost, you also get all the heroes available to you without paying or grinding in-game currency. They even have a system of rewarding players with in-game cosmetics simply based on how long/well you play a character.

The controls of Marvel Rivals also add to its simplicity. This is not to say the game doesn't have depth but the controls have a familiarity. If you've ever played games in the “hero-shooter” genre you will notice they are borrowing a lot of the same concepts. In a game where they intend for you to play multiple characters having a repeatable system for abilities makes it a lot easier.

On top of this, they offer various options for you to change key bindings or other settings to get a more personalized control scheme.

Finally, I have to mention the game is cross-play. This means you can play the game with any of your friends, It doesn't work for competitive ranked modes but it really makes the queue times for the casual modes very fast.

2. Gets You Closer to IP

Although I'm sure not all the player base is big Marvel fans, Rivals still does a great job implementing comic and movie elements. Most of the cast have skins that call back to old comic outfits and some from the MCU. The skins even come with issue numbers and summaries so you can learn a bit and hopefully do some more research.

There are even reports that the game has spiked Marvel comic sales across the nation. This isn't surprising when you see the game, the art style makes it look like you're playing a comic. Marvel Rivals goes the opposite direction of the hyper-realistic look most current adaptions use and leans into a more cell-shading stylized approach.

Rivals have even published a comic line leaning even harder into the success of their approach.

3. Has a Solid Future

All these factors come together for the game's biggest reason I think you should play, that being its bright future. The game developers have already stated they are committed to adding new maps, characters, skins, and game modes. Already recording millions in profit it's not likely they run into a funding issue.

The player base is also fighting strong with over 600,000 players at peak on Steam alone. At this pace Marvel Rivals does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, so grab some friends, pick your favorite hero, and have a blast
