2024 NFL Season Preview: A Historic Three-Peat, Exciting Rookie Quarterbacks, and a First in South America
The 2024 NFL season is finally here, and it promises to be one of the most exciting ones yet. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the action to begin, and with good reason. From a team chasing NFL history to fresh faces at quarterback and even the first NFL game in South America, there’s plenty to look forward to this year.
When and Where to Watch
The season kicks off on Thursday, September 5, with the Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning back-to-back champions, hosting the Baltimore Ravens. The game will take place at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, starting at 8:20 p.m. ET.
Fans can catch all the action on major TV networks like CBS, ESPN, FOX, NBC, ABC, and NFL Network. If you prefer streaming, you can tune in on platforms like NFL+, Sunday Ticket, Peacock, Paramount+, ESPN+, Amazon Prime, and even Netflix.
Chiefs Eyeing History
The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the season with an opportunity to make history by becoming the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles. The team has been a powerhouse, winning three championships in the last five years, led by head coach Andy Reid, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and dynamic tight end Travis Kelce.
Last season, the Chiefs’ defense stood out, led by coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and defensive tackle Chris Jones. But their offense, which had been their strength in previous years, struggled a bit. They only managed to score 39 touchdowns in the regular season, tying for 17th in the league. To fix this, the Chiefs added some firepower to their offense. They signed wide receiver Marquise Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy, a speedy wideout from Texas who set a 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine.
With these new additions, the pressure is on Mahomes and Reid to revamp their offense and aim for another Super Bowl win. Mahomes, however, is focused on improving as the season progresses. “We’re going to have to play our best football early in the season,” Mahomes said before the season opener. “All we can do is go out there and be our best.”
Given their recent success, the Chiefs are once again favorites to win it all. But can they make history and complete the elusive three-peat?
Exciting New Quarterbacks
One of the biggest storylines this season is the arrival of a talented group of rookie quarterbacks. The 2024 NFL Draft was loaded with quarterback talent, and six were picked in the first 12 selections.
The Chicago Bears selected Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick. Williams, a former USC star, is considered a game-changing talent. He’s already made a big impression on his teammates and was even named one of the Bears' eight captains for the season, a rare honor for a rookie. Wide receiver DJ Moore praised his young quarterback’s work ethic and leadership.
The No. 2 pick, Jayden Daniels, will be starting for the Washington Commanders after a standout preseason performance. Meanwhile, Drake Maye, the third overall pick, won’t be starting for the New England Patriots right away. Instead, the Patriots are going with veteran Jacoby Brissett, at least for the start of the season.
Other rookie quarterbacks like Michael Penix Jr., who was selected by the Atlanta Falcons, and JJ McCarthy of the Minnesota Vikings, have faced different challenges. Penix will start the season as a backup to Kirk Cousins, while McCarthy’s rookie season ended before it started due to a knee injury in the preseason.
On the flip side, Bo Nix, selected 12th overall by the Denver Broncos, has been one of the biggest surprises. Nix impressed during the preseason and earned the starting job, becoming the first rookie quarterback to start for the Broncos since Hall of Famer John Elway.
NFL Expands to South America
Another historic milestone for the NFL this year is the league's first-ever game in South America. As part of the league's efforts to grow its global reach, a regular-season game will be played in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This marks a new chapter for the NFL as it continues to expand its fan base beyond the United States.
What to Expect This Season
With a mix of new faces, established superstars, and the potential for historic achievements, the 2024 NFL season is shaping up to be unforgettable. The Kansas City Chiefs are aiming for a three-peat, while rookie quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels are ready to make their mark on the league. Add in the excitement of the NFL’s first game in South America, and there’s no doubt that this season will be full of thrilling moments.
As the season kicks off, fans everywhere are eager to see how it all unfolds. Will the Chiefs make history? Will a rookie quarterback lead his team to glory? One thing’s for sure: the 2024 NFL season is not to be missed.
