The Girl Who Cries Diamonds: A 1996 Mystery That Still Shines Today

Could a Young Lebanese Girl Really Produce Genuine Crystal Tears?

It’s Saturday, December 13, 2025, and while I was thinking about what to chat about today, I stumbled across one of those utterly bizarre stories from the past that makes you wish it were a superpower you could unlock. Honestly, I wish I had this gift. There’s a tale about a girl who seems to have the real-life ability to cry crystal tears. Now that’s pretty cool and, let’s be honest, pretty convenient, right? Imagine: watch a sad movie, buy a house!

The Phenomenon: A Glimpse from 1996

Take a look at this incredible vintage video from 1996. It features a young, 12-year-old Lebanese girl named Hasna Mohamed Miss Omani. The footage shows her seemingly crying out actual crystals. I mean, seriously, look at the size of that thing! I have to wonder if it hurt coming out.

Several international reporters were on site to capture this strange phenomenon, including a report done by Cher International. The girl herself explained that one day at school, she simply felt a discomfort in her eye, and voilà, her very first piece of crystal appeared.

Nine Months of Crystal Production

This incredible occurrence went on for an astounding nine months. According to the reports, Hasna was producing seven pieces of crystals from her eye every single day.

I don’t know how much teardrop crystal is worth on the crystal market these days, but if people are willing to pay for this level of uniqueness, I’m sure there would be collectors willing to shell out good money for genuine, 100% human tear crystals. Talk about a niche commodity!

The Skeptics vs. My Gut Feeling

Of course, when something this mind-boggling happens, the skeptics come out in force. The main argument used to debunk this video is that the young girl had simply inserted the crystals into her eyes and then popped them out for the cameras.

But honestly? I debunk this debunk. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. I truly cannot imagine a sweet, little 12-year-old girl sticking crystals into her eyes seven times a day, every day for nine months, just for some attention.

I mean, really? “Hmm, what should I do today to become more popular in school? Hey, I know! I’ll buy some crystals, shove them up my eye, and then cry them out on camera and pretend I can cry crystals. Maybe then that boy over there will finally notice me!”

Another argument some people offered was that the girl may have been hit by glass at some point, which stayed in her body, and years later came out through her eye.

The Medical Verdict

Thankfully, there was some proper investigation. The ophthalmologist who examined the girl confirmed that the crystals were indeed real and not glass.

Do we seriously have to come up with a scientific explanation for everything, even when the supposed “explanation” is arguably more ludicrous than the phenomenon itself?

In my humble opinion, this is totally legit. This girl could cry out crystals! The last time I heard of anything this wild was honestly in the Japanese manga, YuYu Hakusho, but hey, weirder things have certainly happened in this world!

What’s Your Explanation?

So, what do you think? Do you disagree? And more importantly, how do you explain this phenomenon? What’s your best theory for how a young girl could produce seven crystals a day from her eyes?
