The COVID is Coming, The COVID is Coming!
Or Has It Always Been Here?

March 2020, a new and deadly virus hits the shores of America. Panic is unleased among the population.
“What is this thing? Where did it come from? How did we get it?” are the outcries.
Well frankly, it seemed as if the politicians, the news stations, the CDC and the HOE I mean the WHO didn’t know either because they kept us in utter confusion. But this man, Frank Esper, MD, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Cleveland Clinic, knew what this disease was and how we got it.
Why wasn’t his article Coronaviruses Have Been Around For Centuries: What Differentiates COVID-19? – Consult QD (clevelandclinic.org) placed on the front pages of newspapers and in the nightly tv headlines?
If we’d have known his analysis sooner, we would understand why recommending the wearing of face masks made sense. We’d have known not to point the finger and condemn China for little Suzy and Darryl being pulled out of school. We’d have known that nothing needed to be shut down at all and our lives could have gone on as normal until vaccines were produced.
All we had to do was wear the masks, wash our hands and use hand sanitizer.
Coronaviruses, ““These are strains that have undergone recent animal-to-human transition.” This can happen when a virus either mutates directly to humans, or through a second (intermediary) species that then further mutates into a human pathogen.” according to Dr. Esper.
It’s interesting that most, but not all, pandemics have originated from China. For more information refer to this article Here are 5 deadly epidemics that originated from China (opindia.com) Now that I understand a little bit more about the origin of coronaviruses I have to ask the question, “When are people going to stop testing the laws of nature?”
Certain animals are not delicacies, they’re potentially deadly virus spreading incubators. However, these viruses can also be spread in commonly eaten animals such as chickens that we think are safe and disease free.
It’s not so much as these animals are disease free. It’s how certain countries regulate the processing and selling of animal meet. Speaking of regulation, let’s get back to discussing why our government was able to shut us down and make us stay at home.
As much as I want to believe that they did it because they had our best interest at heart, will we find out later that it was how our politicians could finally shut down small businesses?
After all, they authorized the SBA to award loans to small businesses, but most of that funding went to major corporations. They authorized a second round of funding for small businesses, but did they know it was going to be too late to save most of them from closing?
I know this, the pandemic proved to me just how much money and financial resources America has when they want to give it out. I learned that lesson after watching a documentary about the rebuilding of Germany following WWII. America gave so much money to the reconstruction yet barely funded its own education programs.
And aren’t you glad to learn that companies can let their employees work from home which helps to reduce traffic and air pollution, allows them to be closer to their families for dinners and kid’s activities, yet still generate them enough profit?
Did you like how our politicians used your stimulus money as a pawn to slip other unrelated legislation past the parties? The pandemic brought to light many troubling flaws in our system and made us finally take a closer look and maybe a stance on working to fix those flaws.
Now that I’m more aware of how the coronavirus diseases spread, I’m going to continue to wear my masks long after our leaders finally say it’s ok to go back out and play.
