Is Bangkok Thailand’s Most Beauty-Obsessed Province?
Bangkok Locals Lead the Charge for Youthful Skin

In the face of these economically hard times, the anti-aging market just seems to be booming. Even if tourists numbers are dropping and Thai consumers are tightening the purse strings, there’s one market that just won’t quit, and that’s facial rejuvenation and anti-aging treatments.
And if you've ever felt like beauty clinics are around every corner in Bangkok, you’re not wrong. According to a new study by Interplast Clinic, Bangkok ranks No.1 in Thailand when it comes to search interest in anti-aging and cosmetic procedures.
The clinic analyzed Google search data from across all 77 provinces, covering popular treatments like Ulthera, Ultraformer III, fillers, and Botox. The results? Bangkok scored a whopping 1.11 on the “Beauty Index”—almost twice as high as second-place Phuket (0.58).
I'm actually quite surprised by the data. Bangkok clearly has a very urban culture and more disposable income compared to the rest of the country. However, there's is also a great wealth disparity, so it's quite hard to define who the "average" Bangkokian is. I would also have expected cities like Chiang Mai to place higher? The study ranks it in joint sixth place with Samut Prakan, which is a province neighbouring Bangkok.
It's worth noting that the study included both English and Thai search terms. So search results in places like Phuket clearly aren't just inflated by demand from tourists. And although many treatments here are cheaper than in Western countries, from what I've experienced, local demand is definitely the driving force.
How About The Rest of Thailand?
Phuket, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, and Chonburi also made the top five, but no other province came close to Bangkok’s beauty obsession.
Maybe it’s the city’s nonstop energy, the Instagram culture, or just how easy it is to book a treatment, one thing’s for sure: in Bangkok, looking good is part of the lifestyle.

Thailand’s Most Popular Anti-Aging Treatments
From the clinic's website: "Dermal fillers, and lip fillers top the list as the most sought-after procedures by search volume, while skin-tightening treatments like Ulthera and Ultraformer III continue to generate strong interest.
With an aging population and increasing beauty consciousness, interest in skin rejuvenation and non-surgical enhancements is on the rise. In 2024, Thailand’s beauty and personal care market reached an impressive $7.2 billion in value, reflecting a 13.9% YoY growth. Beyond its economic influence, the industry empowers individuals to refine their appearance and boost confidence, making aesthetic treatments a deeply ingrained part of modern Thai lifestyle."

I'm surprised Bangkok is so far ahead in the anti-aging search rankings. It makes sense that it has more disposable income, but I thought other cities might be more into it too. I wonder what makes Bangkokians so much more beauty-obsessed than people in places like Chiang Mai. Maybe it's the city's fast pace? Also, it's good to know local demand is driving this, not just tourists. But with the wealth disparity, who can really afford these treatments? Do you think the rankings will change in a few years?
