Edison's legendary life

How to evaluate Edison?

Speaking of Edison, people will think of the electric light bulb. On October 21, 1879, in Edison's laboratory, the world's first electric light bulb was successfully produced, which lasted for about 13 hours. However, in 1854, Goebbels, an American, used carbonized bamboo wire, placed in a vacuum glass bottle and energized to light up for 400 hours, which is the earliest successful record of the bulb experiment. Unfortunately, Goebbels didn't patent his design in time. In 1874, two Canadian electricians invented the idea of adding nitrogen to glass bubbles to make electrically charged carbon filaments glow. Unfortunately, they didn't have the money to continue their research and sold the patent to Edison. So in the United States, Edison didn't patent the light bulb at first, and he fought lawsuits for many years.

Then why is it now said that Edison invented the light bulb? That's because Edison was the first to commercialize electric light through generators and power generation systems, bringing it to millions of homes. For a long time, it is said that Edison invented more than one thousand, is the "king of invention". In fact, in Edison's laboratory, there was a team of engineers, mechanics and physicists who did research and experiments. So what did Edison do wrong? Edison's biggest mistake in life was to misjudge the future development of direct current and alternating current. Which brings me to another man, Edison's lifelong enemy -- Tesla. Tesla was also a prodigy, gifted enough to compete with Edison. In 1882, Tesla became an employee of the European division of the Edison Company. Two years later, he was recommended to go to the American headquarters because of his excellent performance. At one point, Edison told Tesla that if it could improve the generator, it would be rewarded with $50,000. As a result, Tesla improved the DC generator much. When Tesla asked Edison for compensation, Edison smiled and said, "This is American humor." In fact, Tesla did not attach much importance to fame and fortune in his life. He gave up the chance of Nobel Prize many times, but he could get millions of dollars for the patent of alternating current. But what he disliked most about Edison was that he was inefficient, stupid and a waste of time. After all, Tesla, who had been educated in orthodox mathematics and physics, and Edison, who had dropped out of elementary school, had many differences. The difference was that Tesla thought alternating current was the future, while Edison thought direct current was more important and refused to change. In the end, Tesla left, founded his own company, and started a century of competition with Edison.

Edison's failure In this fight, Edison made a number of bad moves, first using the media to attack Tesla's alternating current. Then he declared the danger of alternating current on various occasions. He also bought cats and dogs from elementary school students and electrocuted these cats and dogs in public with alternating current. He also electrocuted an elephant. But Edison didn't think it was enough. He wanted to electrocute people. On August 6, 1890, the first person in human history was executed in the electric chair. Edison advertised a quick, painless death to prove the dangers of alternating current. The execution was harsher than any other. But even with all that work, Edison failed, because today, he uses alternating current. But that was not Edison's only failure. He also invented two things that influenced mankind, the phonograph and the motion picture camera. After the invention of the movie camera, in order to monopolize the invention, he hired many lawyers to Sue the people who made movies. Only Edison's studio had the right to make movies. To escape Edison, many studios moved to Los Angeles on the west Coast of the United States to make movies, which later became Hollywood. Edison's phonograph used wax cylinders to record sound, but it was expensive and inefficient. That's when his competitors started using vinyl because it was light and could be mass-produced. Edison's stubbornness led to the collapse of his phonograph company in 1929. Edison died in 1931 at the age of 84, leaving behind wealth and inventions.

Although Edison had a dark history, it did not prevent him from becoming a great man. His persistence and persistence to invention finally made him realize his dream. The black dots just show that Edison was a human being with strengths and weaknesses, needs and pain points. In fact, in the great invention, if there is no commercial power to help, it is difficult to spread to the ordinary people's home. More than one man went first in inventing the electric light, but only Edison lit up the world. Let the scientific invention to the world, Edison is undoubtedly the bridge between that. So three days after Edison's death, all the United States lights out for a minute, this moment as if the United States back in the past, this can feel the greatness of Edison.
