Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season and is the busiest shopping day of the year in the United States.

Some stores open as early as midnight or even late on Thanksgiving Day. Shoppers should check the store opening times. Many people stand in line until stores open to grab sale items.

The Name "Black Friday"

The day after Thanksgiving is the day retailers cut prices and offer bargains. That way, they can make more profits and get back into the "black" before the end of the year. That's why the day is known as "Black Friday."

Thanksgiving ushers in a time of gratitude, family gatherings, and reflection. Yet almost as soon as the last slice of pumpkin pie is enjoyed, some people traditionally head out to the shopping malls.

Black Friday has evolved into a week-long celebration of deals. In 2025, it officially falls on Friday, November 28, but the spirit of savings stretches far beyond that single day.
