Why do humans have to pay to stay alive? Part 4-2
Medical Issues

*This article contains many cold facts about death. My perspective is focused on acknowledging causes of death in order to prevent it and foster life. That being said, this article may be disturbing to readers.*
Whether or not people have insurance (see my previous article on medical insurance), there are many issues threatening human life. According to the World Health Organization, these were the leading causes of death with their respective statistics globally in 2019:

It looks like if mankind can learn to take care of the heart and brain, 15 million deaths (based on the 2019 data) could be prevented! I have a lot to say on the topic of nutrition but as a general statement, I think research into nutrition needs to be a priority. Yes, it is always a good idea for doctors to learn the best techniques for operating on a person’s heart or brain, but those sound like desperate, reactive measures instead of calculated, preventative ones.
I would also like to include another statistic because it impacts how humans are brought into the world. Right now, I do not want to focus on ethics but instead on ways to bring more healthy people into the world without undesired consequences. Annually, about 50 million fetuses are aborted. These are potential lawyers, doctors, policemen, carpenters, teachers, or artists that we are intentionally not allowing to live! I know there are often extenuating circumstances that are used to justify these procedures but what if those negative consequences didn’t exist?
What if there was a device or procedure or something that took a growing fetus out of the mother’s womb and allowed it to grow apart from the mother until it was “born.” If you are familiar with Star Trek Next Generation, the Borg used something like this. I’m not sure at what stage they are taken but it is clear that a single mother is not responsible for its nurturing.

While the fetus was growing, the mother is free to stay or go. Upon “birth” the baby could be cared for by the mother or an adoptive parent. If my dream of taking money out of the medical field is achieved, there would be almost no responsibility (aside from having the procedure) for the mother unless desired. This could also reduce or eliminate the 2 million deaths due to neonatal conditions and the small but tragic number of women who die during childbirth!
If this were applied to animals, (see my previous article on food production and my note on that article), the stresses of pregnancy may not stress or harm the animal as much and allow for longer, healthier lives.
Lastly, a threat that cannot directly cause death but is a looming problem is overpopulation. If our world continues to grow and we do not take action to provide necessities for all, many will die as a result of life.

As much as I like Dwight from The Office, I do not agree with his assessment that we need a new plague. If necessities are provided to every person on Earth, everyone practices proper hygiene, resources are protected and more efficiently harvested, and emotional maturity exceeds its historical shortcomings, humans can coexist on this earth. If everyone is healthy and provided for, mankind will find ways of utilizing Earth’s currently uninhabitable space or we will finally become an interplanetary species and be able to live on other planets!
