Animals should be treated more humanely

I mentioned in my article about getting food for free that robots could handle nurturing and slaughtering animals. This led to comments from others and feelings from myself that something needs to change. I have done extensive research and was intending on presenting detailed information but chose instead to present a general, broad view of the topic. My opinion seems irrelevant on this topic except for my desire to change a few things.
Here is a summary of my research: Pigs, bovine, and chickens are all slaughtered for meat for human consumption at some point in their lives. Some are only a few weeks old while others live for about six years. If left in the wild, they may live up to 20 years so it is clear that their lives are cut short for the benefit of humans.
What would happen if animals were only eaten after they died of natural causes? First, some experts claim that animals are slaughtered when meat quality is highest. Second, some experts claim that it would cost more than the animal is worth to continue raising it. Third, an uncontrolled population of animals could cause problems with human and animal interactions.
My reaction to those three concerns: First, can we take interventive steps to make the meat of older animals taste just as good as younger ones? If female animals were not forced to be pregnant as much or fast as they currently are, would their meat be better after their reproductive stage is over? Second, if money were not an issue, could the animals be raised to old age? Could a large area where animals could feel “in the wild” be left alone but accessible to humans (or robots) desiring to harvest an old or dead animal? Third, are there interventive steps that could make animals less dangerous while maintaining their wild nature?

I don’t have anything else left to say on this topic but since I need to fill space in order for this article to be published, I’m going to tell you a little story that has nothing to do with anything. Once upon a time, a lonely fire spirit named Mishta wandered into the woods, seeking friends. He happened upon a deer but the deer ran away scared. After walking deeper into the woods, he stuck his head into a gopher’s hole. He said, “hello,” but before hearing an answer, he started to feel lightheaded so he backed out and sat down. A moment later, a sleepy gopher named Alice climbed to the surface.
“Hello?” she sleepily said.
“Hi! Will you be my friend?” Mishta replied.
Tilting her head in confusion, Alice answered, “Uh ok! Why are you here?”
“I was lonely out in the human’s world so I came here to find friends and since you said you want to be my friend, I’ve done what I set out to do! So what do you want to do first? Climb a volcano? Race through the woods? Go for a swim? Have a jumping contest?”
“Uh…” Alice replied, still sleepily processing the extrovert’s presence, energy, and questions. “You said swimming. How can you do that?”
“Oh, did I say that? I’ve always wanting to go swimming in water but the only thing I can swim in is oil. It gets kinda messy. I take it you don’t want to go swimming in oil with me? Others have tried but started screaming in pain for some reason. I’m covered in fire and it doesn’t hurt me!”
“Uh, maybe tomorrow we can do one of those things…besides swimming…in anything…but for now, I want to go back to bed. You’re welcome to come in as long as you let me sleep.”
“You know, I’d love to but I need more air than you probably have down there so I’ll let you sleep but I’m going to find more friends. Thanks for being my friend! I’ll come back soon and we can talk more!”
