Hi I’m Kendall Jensen. I’m 15 years old and I’m going to tell you about how I found out about the truth of my family. It all started when I was cleaning out the attic with my father, he called me over saying “ Hey Kendall come look at what I found, it’s your chest.” I had no idea what he was talking about, but it sounded interesting. “Kendall when I was a boy, my mom and I built this chest together and I passed it on to you.” said my father. I honestly didn’t care about the chest but my dad really cared about it though. When I started going through the chest my dad stood up shook then said to me “Uh… Kendall I need to do something real quick, just wait here.” After he left I started to hear whispers chanting “The bottom of the chest, find what hasn’t been found.” It was eerie but enchanting. I started to pull everything out of the chest but the whispers were multiplying and getting louder by the second. When I got to bottom of chest, the voices went soft. There was nothing there, nothing I could see. Till I noticed a glimmer coming from a crack in the floor of the chest. The whispers said to me “Open the latch, pull at the crack, find what hasn’t been found.”, so I did as they said. Behind the latch was a little black book with a gem in the middle. When I picked it up, I could feel a peculiar energy flowing through my skin. I opened the book to find incantations. I flipped to the back of the book and saw a small piece of paper. It read “3452 Brushwood Pkwy 78519”. That address… it’s not too far from here. I heard my dad coming back, so I hid the book back in the chest and closed the top. “Kendall, I’m sorry I left you. We can finish cleaning tomorrow, I don’t feel well.” said my dad as he came up the stairs. He told me to leave the attic and go to my room. I went to my room, laid on my bed, reached in my pocket, and pulled out the paper with the address. I texted my friend Beck to ask if his older brother could take me somewhere. Beck responded “I’ll see if my brother is free but besides that I think he’ll be up to it”. I was now determined to find out what this leads to. In the middle of the night, all I could do was stare at the address. At this point I knew the address by heart. Then it got me wondering about the book in the attic. I got out of bed and headed to the attic. When I got to the attic, the chest was glowing from the inside. I opened the top and found the book glowing. I picked it up and it sparked then stopped glowing. I continued on and open to the first page. “The invisibility spell- homfeleon (home- fee- lee- own)” it read. I notice the signature on the back of the cover “Gj”. It was familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I heard foot steps from behind me getting closer and closer. My first instinct was to hide the book. After it was hid away I heard my father’s voice saying “Kendall? What are you doing up here? It’s night time.” I said “I thought I left something up here.” He looked at me suspiciously and said “Okay then, go to bed.” I walked out relieved, till the piece of paper fell out my packet to the floor. He picked it up and and asked me “Where did you get this?” I told him “I just found it when I came up here.” He calmly said “Go to bed Kendall.” I left to my room with my heart beating a 100 miles per hour. The next day I woke to a text from Beck saying “Hey my brother said he’ll give you a lift.” This was perfect. I could get Beck’s brother to drive me to the address. I had to get ready as quick as possible, it was finally time to find out what this was about. I got dressed and texted my dad to ask if I could go. When he responded with yes, I immediately called Beck to tell him. I stepped out of my room to see that my father stood waiting. “Kendall I want to know if you’ve seen a little black book. It has a gem in the middle.” said my dad. All I could do was look at him blankly till I said “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Sorry I can’t help you.” He looked at me relieved. “Dad, I need to go now.” I said. Then he let me leave. When I walked outside, my ears started to burn and ache. Then everything was loud. I could hear everything at once… it hurt. It all stopped when I heard Beck’s voice call out “Are you just going to stand there or get in?” Throughout the ride I felt anxious. I didn’t know what to expect but I wasn’t expecting a pink two story house. Before I got out, Beck’s brother Tyler said “Where are we?” I said “I’m just helping the owner clean out their house. It’s a small job I’m doing. My dad’s encouraging it.” Tyler smiled and said “Well I hope it goes well. Oh and call me when you need a lift back.” Then they drove away. Now I was alone… in front of the mystery house. I slowly inched towards the porch. The wood on the porch creaked with every step. I knocked on the door but there was no response. I jiggled the handle but it was locked. I pulled away when it sparked. After I let go, the door eased open. Inside, it wasn’t as glamorous as the outside, actually it was quite ominous. The wall’s paint was peeling, the furniture was gone, and the lights were busted except one. I moved towards the light and I found a suitcase on a table in the middle of the dinning room. The case was dusty and covered in cobwebs. I dusted it off and opened the case. It was filled to the rim with stacks of money and a letter was placed on top of the stack.
“ Dear son,
This money is for you to go to your dream school at Hollow Brook Academy of Magic. This is what I’ve been working for. I’m proud of you sweetheart, now go on and make me happy Ryan.
Love your mother”
I couldn’t believe my eyes. My father’s name is Ryan Jensen. Now it all makes sense, Gj stands for Gabriela Jensen, my grandmother. While I was closing the case I heard footsteps coming my way and there’s nowhere to hide, till I remembered something. I whispered “Homfeleon” hoping it would work for me. Then that’s when I saw my father walk in the dining area. He walked up the table and said “I know you’re here Kendall, come out.” I said “I’m invisibly… I think”. He looked at the case and said “I guess you found out huh. We have the ability to learn magic and that’s not something all people have. I didn’t go to the academy but you can. This might be a lot but I feel you can do what I didn’t.” I felt the invisible spell going away and I knew it was gone when he looked at me. I said “Dad… where do I sign up?”
