The Mutable Woman
What did the stars say on the day that you were born?

What did the stars say on the day that you were born?
When I was born, they said to me:
“Hey, kid – You’re gonna be a highly mutable woman. You’ve got Mercury in Virgo, Gemini, too. Mercury ruling both… Mutable, indeed!
“It means: You’re going to like to talk and write. It means, you'll feel like a renegade, and you’ll feel a deep need for change.
“You’ll want to keep things meticulous and organized, all the time, always, but, look - kid, if we could just give you once piece of advice? Hire a housekeeper, okay? Alright?
“Now - just follow what we’ve set out here for you, yeah? It’s all there. And REMEMBER - we’re always here for you. When you're lost or frustrated – just look up? You got it?
“Okay, baby girl. Don’t forget us. We love you.”

*****
I was born at the brink of dawn, on August 24 in the year 1989 at 4:59 AM. Cusp of the Virgo; cusp of the day; cusp of the decade; the century, even.
The Milky Way lays like a blanket across Saskatchewan skies, and that night I was born just in time to see them; the stars winked at me, before they slipped beyond the horizon, and I saw my first sunrise.
Today - March 2021 - there are 7.8 billion humans making a home on Earth. As above, so below - there are infinite stars, and seemingly infinite humans – each one miraculously unique.
In such a vast pool of humanity – how do we situate ourselves? How do we know who we are?
Who am I, and why do I matter??
I think such a common existential question can be examined through a lens of astrology. there are THREE BASIC STAR SIGNS of your birth chart you should know.
(**To find your three signs - a simple google search for “natal chart” will allow you to enter your information and generate a chart… Or - if you’re like me – find an astrologist you trust and love**)
***
YOUR ASCENDING SIGN
My ascending sign: Virgo.
Our ascending signs speaks to our character. It plots who we are, and tells of our personality.
My astrologist said to me today: “The ascending sign is what people think of when they think of you! So for you, people might say: “Carrie is so energetic, interested in so many things, and here and there and everywhere!”
Nailed it in one, Shannon.
Virgo is a mercurial, earth loving, deeply feminine creature, a deep thinker with hyper-critical tendencies of others, and especially (oh, especially) of self.
Virgo is also a mutable sign.
Mutable zodiac signs “speak of adaptability, flexibility, and sympathy.” The four mutable signs, along with Virgo, are Sagittarius, Pisces, and Gemini (ooooh, Gemini).
Mutable signs “mediate change,” and change themselves frequently in order to execute said change(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutable_sign)
SUN SIGN.
My sun sign: Virgo
Our sun sign can be thought of as the “plotline” of our life. My astrologist, Shannon, says that “the trajectory of my sun sign and ascending sign is very well integrated,” and, “of the same metal”.
Her words – “of the same metal” - make me think of the alchemy of my life. I think that the very make-up of who I am pulls me like a magnet towards my path. Like becomes like. And when I fight that pull, it can only create tension in my life.
MOON SIGN
My moon sign: Gemini
Our moon sign speaks to the things that are a matter of circumstance, Shannon tells me, “the moon is that which is forever shifting in our life - not unlike the moon cycle itself.”
The moon sign speaks to our “fortune and circumstance…to those things that aren’t as much in our control,” Shannon says.
My moon lies in Gemini – another of the mutable signs, like Virgo.
Gemini is also ruled by Mercury - like Virgo.
(‘Little Miss Mutable Mercury’, they call me!)
It starts to make sense why I have an unquenchable desire for change, and why I feel like I want to share that with everyone. So much so, in fact, that its’ even my brand: “Change with Carrie”.
(Of note: I didn’t know anything about mutability until I started researching this today)

What’s best of all about astrology, to me, is that the stars tell me blind spots.
Astrology is like my best friend, telling me when my teeth are dirty, or when the strap on my ugly old brown bra is showing underneath my new dress.
The stars tell me what I should be wary of, and how to help myself out.
For example, Virgo’s are notoriously into organization and meticulousness.
I do have a need for organization, but on a large, grand, meta sort of scale…What I mean, is: I appreciate the need for a critical mass in the human consciousness; but, if you opened the door of my bedroom, you’d ask: What the hell kind of Virgo lives here!?
The truth is - I am always busy with the next, newest, shiniest interest of mine – and I pour my energy into keeping those things meticulous. Meaning – I don’t have the energy or time in my human day to keep everything all together and clean, in a way that a Virgo kind of sort of needs it to be.
If I allowed them to , my mutable dualities would exhaust me to the point of utter anxiety and hopelessness. I’d barely even be able to enjoy this human life!
“BE MORE NORMAL!” my lizard brain would constantly chant at me.
“Clean up your room!” it would persist, “Grade A's only! Make more money! The dog isn’t heeling straight enough!” (O! Ye mutable dualities!)
But, instead – when I look at my birth chart (*when Shannon reads it to me) – I can see that…
The tensions that arise from the planets and stars which made a stamp in the heavens of the moment I was born tell me that I am a woman of dualities, a woman between worlds; one foot in, and one foot out the door.
Rather than loathe myself – I can listen to my stars, and mitigate all these tensities by hiring a housekeeper every now and then, for example. (I mean, no, they won’t clean as perfectly as only I, a Virgo, can! But - still. The floor’s will be clean and the laundry folded, and I can write my stories in tranquility.)
At the end of the day, my stars remind me to let it go. Rather than losing time and sleep over dirty baseboards, the star signs remind me: my life is beyond beautiful.
“Just look up,” they say.

So – was the timing of my birth a coincidence? I certainly don’t think so.
The stars that stamped themselves across the skies at the moment of my birth were like a dial - set just for me!
I am so, so special, that the heavens made a pattern just for me, to remind me how great I am. To remind me of where I came from, where I am, and where I can go.
Astrology shows me where I should focus my energy this lifetime, in order to continue my evolution. The stars invite me to revisit the path of my soul.
Are the stars a mystery - or do they teach us the mystery? How much could be known, if we chose to open our eyes and read the signs.?
The stars don’t just leave us clues – they’re a detailed map, a dial of the trajectory of our soul progression.
In an era where Empirics is God, Heaven’s map has been disregarded; worse – made to look infantile, ignorant, inferior.
But, maybe as spirits in the womb - we get to choose a precise exeunt, as a clue to our future selves about how to best progress in this world.
Maybe it’s all right there, allowing and awaiting for us to lay claim to our destiny.
What I know is that with the stars above me – I’ve really have no need to be afraid.
It’s so easy to look up and feel better.
On the day that I was born, the stars said to me: You are a mutable woman.
Tell me:
What did the stars tell YOU,
on the day that you were born?
