The ghosts behind my eyes
A story of paranormal encounters
It started long ago, one of my earliest memories I would see them. For years, I felt filled with fear at the sight of them. There was something real yet unreal about the way they stood there. Sometimes, they would replay scenes over and over again, and other times, they would stand there, staring into space unmoving. They were lost in this forever space between the land of the living and the land of the dead.
In my fear, I ran from there; I told them to stop showing themselves to me. I demanded that they hide, and for the most part, they did. I lost the sight, though, as, with most things, not everything that’s lost is gone forever.
When I want to see, I have learned how to open that eye to glimpse into that world. One day, I was at the hospital, and I had decided to turn it on because I needed to be sure that the person that passed had found their light. I didn’t want them to be lost in the between space, and so I closed my eyes and allowed my mind to focus on the present. I allowed myself to calm and center and slowly open my eyes without opening them.
The world from this view was tinged a slightly darker color, and around the room was shrouded in darkness. I turned my head and scanned the space around me. For a moment, I saw nothing and doubted that I had been successful in turning on the second sight. I always doubted myself, so this would not be a surprise for me.
As I was on the cusp of giving up and walking away from my desire to see my loved one off safely, I saw them. They stood by the doorway of the hospital room, dressed in their best clothes and appearing to me as their younger self. A single tear slide down my cheek as I saw from the right of them a bright white light that was so beautiful I was momentarily paralyzed by it. “Go into the light,” I cried out.
My loved one looked at the light and turned back towards me with a warm and joyful smile. Without words, I instinctively knew they were telling me that they loved me and thanked me for seeing them off. I couldn’t help but smile though my heart was breaking.
I watched as they entered the light and started to move upward. It was at this time that I noticed the others. The lost souls that had been wondering the hospital possibly because they missed their flight. They grabbed my loved ones and tried to drag them out of the light, but I couldn’t allow this to happen, so I channeled my energy and forced the lost souls back away from the light.
The light pulled my loved one and faded away. I watched as the lost souls became confused and set their gaze upon me. They came into the room in droves. I didn’t possess the ability to create light. All I could offer them was warm energy. I didn’t know how to call the light. I sent my energy to warm the room and remove the darkness so that they could find comfort and perhaps their light would return.
Once I was confident that my loved one was safe and that the lost ones were comforted, I broke my connection with the other plane and opened my eyes. My tear-stained cheek was the only proof of my experience.
