The Book of Possibility
A book that would change the course of the universe
There was once a man who journeyed throughout the world in search of a little black notebook. It was said to contain wisdom beyond man’s wildest dreams. This man’s name was Neon. He was a physicist who spent most of his days in a laboratory or out in nature, trying to figure out the secrets of the universe. As he was growing up, he had heard stories of a mysterious little notebook. The tales he had heard said that this notebook had no author. No one knew the true origins of the book. Some speculated that it may have entered into our dimension through a stargate.
The little black notebook was first found by a man named Edward Clementine hundreds of years earlier. He found the notebook sitting on a rock. Edward soon discovered that the notebook contained notes that were almost incomprehensible for any ordinary human mind. Human beings were just not evolved enough yet to be able to comprehend its contents.
The notebook had pictures and precise diagrams of the planet earth and its solar system. The notebook made absurd claims. It said the Earth was a sphere. Every educated mind in Edward’s time knew the Earth was flat. Edward was blown away by the information this book held. The intricate diagrams and blueprints of the universe all mapped out held him captive, and in awe. Highly advanced mathematical formulas, far beyond human calculations were also presented in the notebook. Edward knew that no one was prepared for this knowledge. He locked it away in his library, hidden, until a future time when man might be able to comprehend its mysteries.
Generations passed. It is now the year 3020. The legend of the little black notebook with no author circulated widely among academics. Is mankind ready? Neon thinks it is. Neon travelled to what had been known as England, following the clues in the stories. He arrived in the correct town and found the library of Edward Clementine. He dug through the ancient texts, searching for the book. Finally, after many hours he found it. It had been hidden in a secret compartment in the west wall. In the secret compartment there was also an envelope with $20,000. He pocketed the envelope and began looking through the pages of the notebook. What he saw boggled his mind. He saw what was not meant to be seen. “Or maybe it was meant to be seen,” Neon thought to himself. As he read more of the little black notebook, he started to see deeper secrets. These secrets seem to have come from a more advanced species. There were step by step instructions on how to channel energy with his mind to open an interdimensional gateway. There were instructions on how to travel to other realms.
Neon focused, and practiced, he began channeling energy with his mind. He was able to organize the power of manifestation and opened a portal. He then put on a space suit for protection and started to shift his thoughts. Neon entered into the portal and traveled to a new realm.
When he arrived, everything looked familiar and similar to the realm he had just left. There were differences, however. The sky was not blue. It was completely orange. Everything was topsy turvy. All the trees, plants, telephone poles, and structures were zig zag shaped.
As soon as he entered into this new realm, he was approached by a man wearing a business suit. Even the man seemed crooked and walked a crooked line. The man introduced himself. “Hello Neon, my name is Mitskey, Michael Mitskey.” Then he said, “I presume you have my $20,000?”
Neon stood still with a baffled look on his face. “How do you know my name?” he asked. “And how do you know I have $20,000?”
“Let’s put it this way Neon, you did not find the little black notebook. The little black notebook found you.” Mitskey said. “The $20,000 was with the book so that you can buy what I have to offer. What I have to offer will enable you to send the little black notebook back to the void from which it came.”
Neon was blown away by what this crooked man from another dimension was saying. As he looked down at the book again, he noticed it now had nothing written on its pages. It dawned on him that the book presented something different to each person who looked inside its cover. The book seemed to have its own will. It could show the reader anything it wanted to. Since it came from the void, it’s innate form was nothingness. Its pages were completely blank. Neon felt a connection forming in his brain. There is limitless power that comes from the void. Because it was once nothing it can revert to that and can take the shape of anything. Before there was a universe, there was nothingness. Everything we see today is a byproduct of the void.
Neon turned back to Mitskey and said, “So what do you have to offer?”
Michael Mitskey pulled a little device from his pocket. It looked highly advanced, though slightly crooked. “It’s a black hole generator. It will create a secure black hole the size of a pie. The book wishes to return to the void from which it came. I found the book hundreds of years ago. It gave me the instructions to build this generator. It also gave me instructions to open inter-dimensional gateways. When I was done building the device, I followed the books instructions and sent it to your realm to wait for you.”
Neon considered the implications of what the notebook seemed to want. Was he ready to lose the seeming limitless knowledge the book contained? He wanted to keep it desperately, but he knew the world just wasn’t ready yet. He handed Mitskey the envelope with the $20,000 in it and received the device. He stood in the stargate and activated the device and let it go. It began floating in mid-air, spinning faster and faster until it ripped through space and time. A small black hole appeared. It grew to the size of a pie pan and then seemed to stabilize itself.
“The universe is not ready for the kind of information available in the book.” Mitskey said.
Neon nodded and agreed. “You know what? Your right!” with that he tossed the book towards the black hole.
As it soared through the air pulled towards the black hole, the covers of the little black notebook fluttered open. The world around Neon seemed to warp as if it were folding in on itself. Neon knew instantly something catastrophic was happening. He watched in horror as the entire realm was suctioned in on itself like an untied balloon and was consumed by the notebook. The notebook was nearly instantaneously swallowed up by the black hole.
The little black notebook had vanished into the nothingness of the void. It had taken the crooked realm back with it. Had it taken Neon’s universe too?
Neon had a flashing thought that perhaps everything had vanished, returned to where it came from, back to the nothing, the void, pregnant with new possibilities.
For eternities, nothing happened. Existence was laid to rest. The little black notebook had been crooked and tricked the entire universe. Neon had held the fate of the universe in his hands and had tossed it all into oblivion. He had been duped, and now everything remained still. There would come a time though when the stillness could no longer be maintained. Until then however existence remained only a possibility.
We must never underestimate the power of possibilities though. For we, and everything in existence were once just that. When the power of possibilities could no longer be contained, there was a Big Bang and life exploded into existence. Someday it will happen again.
You see, there can never truly be nothing because even when there seems to be nothing, there is always possibility.
