star wars
Star Wars is a science fiction franchise set in a universe far far away.
Watching 'The Force Awakens' for the First Time in Theaters: My Favorite 'Star Wars' Memory
Today's #RogueOne Prompt asks what is your favorite #StarWars memory. The Star Wars franchise is one of those rare ones that span through decades and generations; my parents who hail from Afghanistan and came over to Canada in the late 1980s know about Star Wars. I'm pretty sure I went as Yoda for Halloween one year and in my green face makeup, I slept.

Why 'Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back' Is the Father of All 'Star Wars' Movies
The #StarWars franchise spans decades and generations, with the first installment, A New Hope releasing back in 1977. The original trilogy is beloved by many, the prequels exist and the future installments have everyone giddy with excitement. With how popular the franchise is, there will always be debates on which installment is superior...

The Last Jedi: Too Much or Too Little?
The above title, I must confess, is a falsehood; The Last Jedi is not quite as bad as Hayden Christensen in the infamous romantic comedy, The Attack of the Clones. That being said, Rian Johnson’s attempt to write and direct a Star Wars movie has numerous conspicuous problems, and its efforts to differentiate the sequel trilogy (ST) from the Star Wars of yore consistently come off as awkward and nonsensical. The more serious issues, however, stem from the script, as the more conservative, primarily plot-driving dialogue of the original three movies has been replaced with blatant cliche and frequent attempts at humor, which often appear even in the most intensely serious moments of the movie. A few thoughts:

A Hero's Journey
The hero’s journey is a structure where a story is told in a perspective of a single hero. There have been a few interpretations of the hero's journey but I’ll be focusing on Joseph Campbell’s simple 12 stages of the hero’s journey. I'll be using the original Star Wars as an example. The hero that will be used is named Luke Skywalker.

Ten Things Really Wrong with 'The Last Jedi'
(Disclaimer: this article is mostly opinion-based, and I am not claiming it to be factual. I am all for civil discussions with others who have different opinions than me, but please remain mature if I say something you disagree with. We're all touchy when it comes to our own opinions, but it is no reason to get hostile.

Is Rey a Mary Sue?
So you saw The Last Jedi and were amazed, blown away even by the awesome majesty of Rian Johnson's creation. Yet there was one glaring problem with the character of Rey. She seems a bit off, far too powerful, far too skilled in the use of a lightsaber. And here comes today's article, is Rey a Mary Sue?

Finish Your Jedi Training
Let me preface this post by saying that until five days before this was written, I had never seen a Star Wars movie in my 28 years on this Earth (to be accurate, I saw The Phantom Menace when it came out, but I was assured by many fans that this does not count).

Who Is Admiral Holdo?
When I first saw the movie The Last Jedi, my curiosity was immediately piqued by vice-admiral Amilyn Holdo. For those who don't know, she was the purple haired lady that takes command after Leia is indisposed and sacrifices herself in order to save the rest of the Resistance. We clearly had never seen this new character in the sequels or prequels and while she does add to the roster of strong female leads we are seeing more often in Star Wars, I couldn't help but wonder where she came from and who she was. And so comes this article. We will now look at the background of Amilyn Holdo and what she represents.

The Last Jedi
I have been to three screenings of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the eighth entry into the Star Wars episodic saga and when I went into it the first time, I was feeling the hype that was left at the end of The Force Awakens back in December 2015 and after I left the cinema on the third screening, I had only one thought. What will happen in Episode 9? (THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW.)

Who Is Luke Skywalker?
You've seen the movies. You've read the books. But you've always wondered. Who is Luke Skywalker? Why are all these nerds arguing about him and what does he represent? Well fret not for it is time for a lesson. I am here to explain to you in the most basic (pardon the pun) terms who Luke Skywalker is and what he represents to the Star Wars community. Part 1 will be a recounting of the tale of Mr. Skywalker from the new Disney canon and part 2 will be a recounting of the Skywalker legend from the old, non cannon expanded universe (or EU as we colloquially put it). These are two very distinct and different people so bear with me on this. This article will overlook only the Legends of Luke Skywalker book as it has still not been clarified what's myth and fact in that book. So let us begin with the origins of the humble man who would become a legend of great power...
