Carriage Politics
The train creaked as it wound its way along the fresh tracks to Austin, Texas. Belching smoke from a metal chimney that burned to the touch, it had left Santa Fe this morning, under the haze of an exceedingly hot summer. The countryside around the railway looked bare and unpopulated, making the train look like a metal snake invading the otherwise undisturbed New World. Rolling hills melted into forests of struggling green as the train passed through land long since bereft of rainfall and wildlife. The sun was beginning to head towards a beautiful horizon, closing the late afternoon with its deep orange hue; the train trundled on.

Demons Run
I ran to the right, but still they were right behind me. It seemed that no matter how fast I ran I could not escape the dark forces that were chasing me. I decided it was time to face them since there was no chance to outrun them. I stopped my fast pace, turned around, and drew my two swords. They would be here at any moment. My heart was beating out of my chest, adrenaline was pouring through my body. Then all three came around the corner, they were dark creatures from the underworld. They held their dark swords and charged at me. I jumped over the first one and hit the second one on the top of the head with the back of my sword. The third one was too fast and slammed into me with his shield.

Silent Night
12 years ago “Mom where you taking me?!” My cries and pleads wasn’t being heard as my feet shuffled against the ground. The iron crib of mom’s hand cutting off circulation of blood in my arm, as we dash through the thick dense forest. The rain pelted my hair, the loose strands stuck to my face as we race across the woods. Clawing of tree branches cutting into my wet damp skin. Not knowing where she was taking me, but her eyes darted from tree to tree watching for something or someone. My legs turned into jello with no feeling left in them, my chest heavy with bricks as I tried to keep up with mom. Her legs are just way too long and nimble when she runs, mine is just stubby and short. The forest falls silent as all life was drained, all I could hear was the heavy harsh breathing of our breath.

Boy on Fire
She sits meditating in center of the garden, hummingbirds flit across the flowers and the warm earthy smell envelopes her. She stands, eyes shut, and pauses, listening closely to the natural surroundings. She can feel the ground around her, every creature of the soil. She smiles then steps to the side, her hand strikes forward in a clenched fist. Her feet never leave the ground and she begins.

Boy on Fire (Chapter 3)
Ikarus stands outside her door for what seems like an eternity, he had dreamed of staying with her, holding her close as she slept and only releasing her when she asked. He strides down the hall, his bare feet making a soft padding sound in the otherwise silent corridor.

Boy on Fire (Chapter 2)
Maia steps into the chambers and tosses her bag to the four-poster bed, the curtains are drawn back and billow ominously in the wind. She slowly walks to the window and looks up at the luminous moon, its full form casts the world in silvery shadows. Below she can see the gardens with flowers swaying gently and the cages that once held exotic animals from all corners of their world.

Boy on Fire (Chapter 1)
The boy sat silently in the center of the room, candles flickering around him casting shadows on his already somber form. You can make out faint red marks upon his bare skin and charcoal curls taper the back of his neck, barely brushing his collar.
