The Benevolent AI Paradox: Friend or Foe?
Artificial intelligence's portrayal in popular movies and theoretical fiction often oscillates between two extreme narratives: one that puts AI as humanity's savior, leading to a golden age of prosperity and creativity, and a second narrative that makes it the source of dystopian situations where machines rise against man. The latter version is particularly characterized by fear and suspicion that are brought by the concerns of surpassing human intellect and autonomy for artificial intelligence. Nevertheless, amidst these divergent viewpoints lies an internal contradiction: if we treat AI nicely, can't it kill us?
