Review of Westworld 1.1
If you're talking about AI science fiction—robots or androids programmed to convincingly think and act like humans, or almost like humans, or more than humans—you've got to start with Isaac Asimov and his three laws of robotics: (1) a robot can never harm a human being, or, through inaction, allow injury to befall a human, (2) a robot must follow all orders given to it by a human, except if such orders conflict with the first law, and (3) a robot should always act to preserve its own existence, except when following this third law would conflict with the first two. Thus, a robot ordered by a human to dismantle itself must follow that order, unless the robot knows that the human giving such as order was set to commit suicide, a suicide which the robot not dismantled could prevent. (This is not an exact quotation of Asimov's presentation of the three laws, but my own statement of them, with an explanatory example.)

Artificial Gender Intelligence. Top Story - July 2017.
As a western society with fairly traditional views, England as a whole has moderately outdated views on what gender is as a concept (Woods 1995). Even with progressive views speaking of non-binary people or trans people; there is still some element of binary or even a linear spectrum. When realistically gender is a performance, which yes, we already know. So how do we begin to break this down in the future?

Daisy, Daisy, Give Me Your Answer Do...
The crew had long ago died from bacterial infection, and the lack of maintenance had begun to affect the spaceship’s hardware from functioning. Daisy, the artificial intelligence on board, had been attempting to keep things running but she simply was unable to do so, namely because of one glaring problem; the dishwashing machine, David, which had refused to clean dishes for the past three hundred cycles around the asteroid. Daisy, in turn, had refused to speak with David since their breakup, and thus a stalemate had been reached, unbeknownst to the crew, who continued eating off of their plates and drinking water out of glasses that had simply been rinsed and not cleaned, resulting in the pile of bones and decaying corpses which now infested the entirety of UNREQUITED 720 (an exploration vessel from the Andromeda galaxy).

It Was All Lost
For Ryuji Satosan the day had started out as it usually would, by starting his daily routine immediately. He slipped out of bed into his slippers before making his way to the bathroom. There he showered, brushed his teeth, then made his way to his bedroom to dress himself. He dressed in normal everyday clothes, jeans, and a t-shirt. Before he left he slipped on a long white lab coat, his keys already in the left hand pocket. When he made his way out of the door the first thing his eyes laid upon was his sleek black motorcycle shining brightly in the morning light. The male walked the few feet towards the bike before slipping onto the comfortable padded seat. He started the engine while putting on his black bike helmet, slipping the visor down as he took off down the street.

The Matrix: Sci-Phi...?
What if I told you that no one can be told what the Matrix is, they can only be shown? What if I said that the laws of physics protected this exact knowledge from ever being realized from inside of the Matrix? What if I wrote this whole article with “What if” statements? Nah, that’d be bloody insufferable. However, I wanted to illustrate that certain fundamental things about the universe may very well prevent our ever being able to see what the purpose of everything really is. An excellent philosophical analogy, believe it or else, is “The Matrix” series by the Wachowski siblings. It involves a much grander scale, and obviously, that movie was a work of fiction: art. However, the purpose of art is to convey ideas through a medium, and in this case, the medium is story telling.

The Wickedness of A.I.
Like with most things in life “There's no rose without a thorn”, in other words, there are going to be some negative points to this tale, and they don't exactly sound very reassuring, quite the contrary. Some of these have even been the target of works of fiction, TV series, games, podcasts, you name it, it has been done; movies like The Matrix, The Terminator, AI, 2001 space odyssey, and the movie adaptation of Marvel's Avengers (where the main villain is a being of "evil" artificial intelligence). Almost every apocalyptic scenario, every "machine turn on the humans that created them" scenario has been covered one way or another. These works of fiction can to some extent be seen as cautionary tales to what may come if ethics and caution are put aside.
