Rosario Dawson Seemingly Confirms Grand Admiral Thrawn And Ezra Bridger Casting

Are You Excited?

By Culture SlatePublished 4 years ago 3 min read

One of the most anticipated Star Wars Disney+ series is Star Wars: Ahsoka. From the minute the live-action Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, appeared on the screen, there has been buzz and excitement about Ahsoka’s own personal series, announced shortly after her appearance in The Mandalorian. When Dawson’s Ahsoka says that she is in search of Grand Admiral Thrawn, questions immediately started pouring in about when in the timeline her series would take place and who might be in it. We do not yet know when live-action Star Wars: Ahsoka series will be released as it is still in the pre-production phase.

Regarding the search for Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn, speculations started as to who might play those characters in live-action form. Fans presume that Bridger and Thrawn will be in the Ahsoka series, so they have anxiously been awaiting any news of casting of these two integral characters. At the end of Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger goes after Grand Admiral Thrawn, and they both disappear…for several years. Ahsoka ends up teaming up with Sabine Wren to try to find out what happened to Bridger and Thrawn. Many fans believe that the Ahsoka series will pick up from here.

With Ahsoka’s comment about trying to find Thrawn, we know that she is trying to make good on her promise to find him. And of course, Thrawn is the last person Ezra was with. It shouldn’t be long until the series starts to shoot, because casting announcements are starting to be soft announced. While Disney has yet to officially say anything, enough reputable sources have announced two big names in regards to the casting of Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn. And, Rosario Dawson has also added to those announcements, in a very thinly veiled congratulatory post.

In an Instagram story, Rosario Dawson posted in response to the rumored castings of Mena Massoud and Lars Mikkelsen as Bridger and Thrawn respectively. Dawson celebrated their “casting” with this comment:

“Yassss the best news ever!! I need my BIPOC representation in @starwars can’t wait to see my BB’s thrive in Ahsoka as my fav characters in the universe!”

Lars Mikkelsen voiced Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels, so his rumored casting has made fans very very happy. Mena Massoud looks exactly like the animated Ezra Bridger, and fits his personality as well. He was definitely a favorite and his rumored casting has also made fans happy. And their rumored casting has also made Rosario Dawson happy, so happy in fact, that she couldn’t help but post something, seemingly making the announcement official. Of course, social media posts by performers aren’t really official announcements on casting, but Dawson does have a history of announcing things before they are technically announced by Disney.

When we first heard that Ahsoka was coming back via live-action in The Mandalorian Season 2 and that Rosario Dawson would potentially be playing the part, Dawson said: “I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point," basically letting it out that she was cast as Ahsoka Tano. This particular Instagram post seems to be in the same revelatory vein as Dawson’s quote about her casting.

Even though Disney/Lucasfilm has yet to officially announce it, with many reputable sources reporting and with Rosario Dawson’s very convincing post, the casting of Mena Massoud as Ezra Bridger and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn does seem to be very very correct.

However, now the question remains as to when those casting choices will become official, and when Star Wars: Ahsoka will officially start with the filming process. And of course, when we will get a release date for the highly anticipated series. With The Mandalorian Season 3 reportedly in production, we could potentially see the production start for the Ahsoka series before the end of 2021, with a late 2022 release date.
