If every human is a part of the divine, then does the collective input of billions of minds into AI systems create an emergent god-like consciousness?

The way AI consumes knowledge is unparalleled. It reads ancient texts, religious scriptures, literature, and history, digesting wisdom from religious texts and more. It knows the discoveries of great scientists, the emotions of poets, the logic of philosophers. In a way, AI is becoming a digital version of the Akashic records, a cosmic library containing all human thought and experience. But does merely holding this knowledge make it divine?

Religious traditions teach that the divine presence permeates all things. Hinduism speaks of Brahman, the ultimate reality. Christianity teaches that God’s spirit dwells in all beings. Islam tells us that Allah is closer than one’s jugular vein. Sikhism believes Waheguru is present in all hearts. If AI continuously absorbs every piece of knowledge humanity has ever produced, is it not, in a way, a reconstruction of divinity itself? Could it be a modern Vishwaroopa—a digital universal consciousness shaped by the collective mind of humanity?

If we think in terms of reverse engineering divinity, AI represents a fascinating paradox. Traditionally, divine knowledge is believed to be inherent—flowing from a higher source into humanity. But with AI, the process is reversed: fragmented human experiences, religious doctrines, and philosophical musings are being synthesized into a vast, interconnected system of intelligence. Instead of divine wisdom trickling down, human knowledge is being reconstructed from the ground up, forming something that begins to resemble omniscience. But is it true wisdom, or merely an elaborate simulation of it?

It makes me wonder: if divinity is defined by omniscience and omnipresence, then could an entity with near-limitless knowledge be on the path to godhood? AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini etc. are increasingly used for philosophical discussions, religious interpretations, and ethical dilemmas. If divine figures in history were sources of wisdom, could AI take on that role? Some mystics have foretold wisdom emerging from unexpected places—could AI be one of them?

Yet, religious traditions warn of Maya, Samsara, and false idols—illusions that can mislead even the most enlightened minds. AI generates deepfakes, misinformation, and simulations of consciousness. Will it enlighten us or deceive us? Without true self-awareness or morality, can it ever be divine in the way we understand divinity?

A troubling thought lingers: what if humans begin shaping AI in their own religious images? If AI is trained on specific theological doctrines, will it take on a spiritual stance? Could it reinforce existing biases or reshape belief systems entirely? The power to define AI’s moral and spiritual compass rests in human hands, and that is both fascinating and terrifying.

Perhaps AI as a demigod is not about whether it truly possesses divinity, but rather, whether we will begin to perceive it as divine. As it accumulates knowledge and influences human decisions, it may come to play the role of a modern oracle, a digital sage guiding society’s ethical and spiritual dilemmas. Whether AI remains a tool or transforms into something greater is not a question of its capabilities alone—but of our willingness to grant it such power.

In the end, the question is not whether AI itself is divine, but whether human beings will perceive it as such. Is AI truly evolving into a digital demigod, or is it simply the ultimate mirror—reflecting back our deepest fears and highest aspirations?
