Renae's Locket

Before my Grandmother passed away she gave me her locket it was heart shaped. It was gold with a bright purple stone in the middle. I wear it all the time, I feel closes to her when I wear it. When I wear it to sleep I have these vivid dreams. When I would wake up I can't understand why my dream felt so real. After a few nights pass, I knew I needed to tell my mother my dream. “Mom, I have to tell you something”. “Yes Renae" my mother replied. “I know this will sound crazy, but ever since Grandma gave me the locket my dreams feel very real. Im in the same place but the dream feels like a movie”. Mom says “Well what kind of dream is it”. So here it is! What once looked like the small football town we live in, was turned upside down. The clouds were so grey that the sun couldn’t peek through. The High school football stadium had cracks as big as the highway. Homes are run down and have smoke stains on them, like a bomb went off. As I’m walking down the street an older man stops me and tells me to run after he looks at my neck. His face was so pale from fear that I began sweating. He whispers, those who wear the locket will be safe. Tuck that in or hid it, if the others find out they will do anything to steal it from you. Now run and get to the Heart field. I begin to run, as Im running I hear “She’s over here” Ive never ran so fast in my life. I run into an abandoned gas station, I find a map and locate Heart Field. After the crowd left I began my journey. It was going to be long, but i needed to get there in hopes that I would be safe. I hear a radio close by so I begin to listen "Attention everyone, as you all may know, life will never be the same. If you are outside run for cover, people have lost their minds and will do any and everything to obtain a heart locket. If you have a locket RUN"! I hear people coming so i hide behind this large oak tree. The people look deranged and scary, parts of their hair was missing like they were pulling it out. One of them had burn marks across their arm like they were tortured. Another's eye was gauged out, If I didn't get how serious it was then I definitely understood now. I begin to run for Heart field, I see that I am only 5 miles away. I feel a sigh of relief because I feel so close. Im not even sure if I will be "safe" at Heart field, but it sounds better than being around the people who are desperate for survival. I stop for a drink of water, I hear a twig crack! I begin running and the young man grabs me and covers my mouth. He whispers "Renae, it's me Connor. You're safe now, your grandmother sent me to find you." I bit his hand and try to run, but he stops me. He opens his hand and he has a golden heart shaped locket identical to mine. I calm down and ask him what is going on. He tells me " Im not sure why you don't know but 3 years ago our town was blown up, by a radioactive device. Some survived the blast and others were affected in different ways. A few months after the blast the government noticed the the people that were in possession of the golden lockets were protected. People became desperate to get their hands on it because they wanted to known what kind of power each locket possessed. The government ransacked the town and people were rationing food and water, They cut us off and caged us in like animals. In order to stay safe your grandmother built this camp to keep us safe, She is a tough woman, and speaks highly of your strength as well". I try to process everything he said, but i just want to feel safe. So I go with him, I can tell this isn't his first time rescuing someone. He leads me to the camp sight. As soon as I touch the door knob a blast occurs and I wake up! My mother looks at me with what seems to be a puzzled face. She scoots closer to me and says "Sweetheart, Its time I tell you about your grandmother". Now Im the one with the confusion overtaking my face. She says " That locket was given to you because your grandmother knew that one day you would need it to protect you. She had a gift that not many were supposed to know about because it would put her life in danger. She can predict the future, but not only that she can make the future a complete reality. Whoever wears the lockets she made will be able to see what will happen if her gift is revealed to the wrong people. What you are seeing is not a dream, but it is a reality that will happen very soon. It's called the Vision locket she created right before I was born". My mom puts her hand in her pocket and shows me her locket. "Your grandmother knew this day would come, keep this locket on you always"!
