New Earth

A story set in a world where humanity has colonized other planets and must confront the challenges of interplanetary relations and governance.

By Jomarie OmandamPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

The year is 2075 and humanity has successfully colonized several planets in the Milky Way galaxy. The Interplanetary Confederation, or IPC, was established to facilitate communication and cooperation among the various human settlements.

As the population on these planets continued to grow, so did the need for resources. The IPC formed a council to oversee the fair distribution of resources among the colonies.

However, tensions began to rise as some colonies felt they were not receiving their fair share. Protests and skirmishes broke out on several planets, threatening the stability of the IPC.

In an effort to quell the unrest, the IPC formed a team of diplomats to assess the situation and find a solution. Among them was Sara, a young diplomat from the colony of New Earth.

Sara and the other diplomats traveled from planet to planet, listening to the grievances of the colonists and working to find a resolution. It was a difficult task, as each colony had its own unique set of challenges and demands.

As they continued their mission, the diplomats learned that the root cause of the conflict was a lack of transparency in the resource distribution process. Some colonies felt that they were being unfairly disadvantaged, while others accused the IPC of favoritism.

To address this issue, the IPC implemented a new system for allocating resources. It involved setting up a central database that recorded all resource requests and allocations, and allowing any colony to access and track the distribution of resources in real-time.

This solution was met with mixed reactions. Some colonies praised the IPC for its transparency and effort to address the problem, while others remained skeptical and continued to express discontent.

Despite the ongoing challenges, Sara remained committed to her role as a diplomat and worked tirelessly to maintain peace and harmony among the colonies. She knew that the success of the IPC depended on the cooperation and understanding of all the human settlements.

As she looked out at the stars, Sara couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the incredible achievements of humanity. Colonizing other planets had come with its fair share of difficulties, but it had also brought about unprecedented opportunities for growth and progress.

As long as humanity continued to work together and find solutions to the challenges they faced, Sara had no doubt that the future of interplanetary relations would be a bright one.

Despite the progress that had been made, tensions among the colonies continued to simmer. Sara and the other diplomats worked tirelessly to address the concerns of the colonists, but it seemed that no matter what they did, they couldn't fully resolve the underlying issues.

As they prepared to return to the IPC headquarters on New Earth, Sara received a disturbing report. A group of radical colonists on one of the outer planets had seized control of a shipment of resources that was intended for another colony. They were threatening to block access to the resources unless their demands were met.

Sara knew that this situation had the potential to escalate quickly and decided to go to the planet herself to try to broker a peaceful resolution. She arrived to find the colonists in a state of high tension, and it was clear that they were not willing to back down.

As she worked to negotiate with the leaders of the group, Sara noticed that one of the colonists seemed familiar. It was a woman she had met on one of her previous missions, a leader of a colony that had been at the center of the resource distribution conflict.

Sara remembered that the woman had been extremely vocal in her discontent with the IPC's policies and had even accused the council of corruption. It dawned on Sara that this woman had orchestrated the entire situation, using the radical colonists as a means to further her own agenda.

Sara knew that if she didn't act fast, the situation could spiral out of control. She calmly explained to the woman that her actions were only serving to create more division and strife among the colonies, and that the IPC was committed to finding fair and equitable solutions for all.

To Sara's surprise, the woman listened and eventually agreed to stand down. She apologized for her actions and pledged to work with the IPC to find a more productive way to address her concerns.

The situation was diffused, and Sara returned to New Earth with a renewed sense of hope. She knew that there would always be challenges in interplanetary relations, but she also knew that by working together and listening to one another, humanity could overcome any obstacle.
