My Love Lost

Part One

By Elizabeth NPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

As I Iooked out towards the horizon on that cool Autumn evening, I reached up and gently

ran my fingers over the surface of my heart shaped locket. Even though the locket was not

made of gold, or even silver, it was the most precious possession I owned. The love of my life,

my darling husband, Noah, had given me this locket when we were dating. I cherished it above

all other material Items. And it was one of the few items I was permitted to keep.

For over 4355 years, the world had been divided into 10 Kingdoms. These Kingdoms were

ruled over by a President and his ten councilors. Before the Kingdoms, there had been

provinces, states, countries, continents. And human beings were permitted to prosper, to live

as one saw fit. That had all changed after the nuclear wars that devastated several countries

and wiped out billions of lives. For 127 years after the wars ended, only a small group of

individuals survived. From those individuals rose the Chosen who formed the 10 Kingdoms. As

individuals returned to the surface, the Kingdoms were slowly filled with human beings.

However, as presidents and councilors were chosen to run all of the 10 kingdoms, corruption

overtcok those who had the most power. Classes were created, dividing the rich and the poor.

Those who belonged to the lower classes were expected to exist only to serve the wealthy and

never ask questions.

I had grown up in the 7th Kingdom, in a place once known by a almost forgotten name,

Europe. My ancestors had existed in this beautiful place for hundreds of years. My life seemed

to have very little meaning, until I met my beloved Noah. Before Noah, all I had known was a

life dedicated to education that would lead to an career in which I would best serve the

wealthy. I had been chosen to be a Nurse. And even though this was a career I was genuinely

excited to be part of, very few were truely satisfied with that what was chosen for them.

The day I met Noah was a day that I would never forget. I was walking down the long

hallway of many in the University I had been sent to, when a man walked right into me. We

both nearly lost our footing, while our books came crashing to the cold marble floor. I

Immediately knelt down to retrieve my books when I chose to look up. My gaze was met by the

most beautiful set of blue eyes I had ever seen. I stopped moving. I could barely breathe. I

scanned the face of the man while my heart skipped a beat. He looked like Adorns in the flesh.

His high cheekbones and strong, square jaw complimented his stunning eyes. His black hair fell

over his forehead and nearly Into his left eye. I wanted to reach out and touch his hair. I could

not speak. I looked away and blushed.

"I am so sorry," he said quickly, stumbling over the words before he too blushed. We

gathered our books together.

"I am too. I should have looked up before I walked Into you" I said quietly before I stood up.

When he stood up, he appeared to be, at least, 20 cm taller than me. Our eyes met again. I, once again, looked away. I blushed even more.

"I am Noah," he burst out, smiling. We both laughed.

"Elizabeth, my name is Elizabeth," I whispered.

After that first meeting, Noah and I were, basically, inseperable. He had been chosen to be a

Nurse as well. We became best friends quickly, and within three months, we were dating. On

our six month anniversary, Noah presented me with my heart shaped locket. And after a year of

dating, he proposed to me. We were married on our Winter Holiday.

Noah and I were truly happy together when the unthinkable happened. We were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary on that cool Winter evening. We were surrounded by our closet friends. But, the laughter was silenced when 5 FSV agents, the "police" appeared to break up our party. The FSV agents claimed to have documents proving that my sweet Noah was not fulfilling his solemn duties as a Nursing Student, and was; therefore, under arrest by the authoity of President Narsekko anf his 10 councilors. I begged and pleaded with the FSV agents not to take my husband away. I told the agents that the documents were falsified. I was torn out of Noah's arms while his hands were cuffed behind his back. I sobbed uncontrollably as he was placed inside the vehicle that the agents had arrived in.

That event had occurred a fortnight ago. My love was lost. I had no guarentee Noah would be returned to me. But I knew I could not give up hope. As my fingers moved across my heart shaaped necklace, I made the decision that I would do whatever it took to get my husband released. Even if I had to take on the President of the 7th Kingdom, I would never give up.

"I promise you, Noah, we will be together again," I whispered as i closed my eyes.
