Moon Girls
The Universe Surrounds Me with Their Light

In a 2019 Forbes article, entitled, "Which Planet Has The Most Moons? Stunning New Discovery Changes What We Know About The Solar System," senior contributor, Jamie Carter, writes: Jupiter may be the undisputed king of the planets in the solar system, but its record of 79 moons has just been smashed after the announcement of a stunning 20 new outer moons at Saturn. Previously thought to have 62 moons, the discovery puts the ringed planet's new total at a peerless 82 moons.
Now, I don't have 82 moons circling about my head, but I have noted a very interesting pattern of women that do circle me...and that is very difficult to do because I am a Gemini...there are two of me to contend with. And these women (my moons) were all born under the sign of Cancer, the moon children. So, having noted that pattern, I had to then ask, "Why did the Creator of the Universe think I needed these beautiful creatures in my life?" So, I examined their profile as laid out by astrologers.
Moody? Cancers get a bad rap with the moodiness stigma. I don't even agree with that characterization. I just think they are highly sensitive beings and are ever so finely attuned with the emotions going on in their world and with the people in their life rather than being "moody." Because of that, they have to make frequent adjustments. Those in my life, have always been able to recognize the most subtle of changes to my world...even when I haven't caught glimpse of any impending chaos.
Tenacity? Yes, with a capital T. And this is the exact reason they are in my world. See, Geminis flit about and move in different circles quite often...and they leave many people behind. They love them, but they aren't good at keeping them. For some odd reason, my sweet moonbeams grabbed hold of our friendship with their claws and refused to let go. I am grateful because in them, I have lifelong friends.
Loyal? Most definitely. Along with their tenacity, their feelings are deep and true. They can be counted on to have your back (or side.)
Nurturing? Oh, yes! These little crabbies are the best at listening from the heart and then knowing exactly what to say. Even though, they have a little bluntness about them, it is always well intentioned and meant to help you. Heed their advice because it is straight from the heart. They give wonderful hugs, too.
Caring? The Universe wouldn't be the same without these lovely women. They have such a tremendous amount of love for others, especially the hurt, the needy, the under-fortunates. They are angels who inspire the rest of us to be better people and do our part.
Back in the early 80's is when Barbara cast her moonlight on me. Our children grew up together and to this day, we are still friends. There were times when I moved out of state and lost touch, but I made it a point to stop by when traveling through and reconnect. (Pre-Facebook.) Her dry wit and sense of humor cracks me up. I will soon move back to that small town (the one she never left.) When my mother passed away, she was buried in our family plot in that small Louisiana town. Barbara was there for me during that time. And I know I will have a friend there.
In the late 90's, in Mississippi and after I graduated from nursing school, I met Teresa. She was also a nurse and also going through a divorce. We were inseparable. We laughed, partied, and made so many memories. She met my family and I met hers. We visited our old stomping grounds so we could get a complete picture of one another. We talked for endless hours, and even to this day, no matter how many years or miles apart, we pick up from where we left off. It will always be like that.
In Texas, in the early 2000 years before I married my last hoorah, there was Elsa, a fiesty, beautiful Puerto Rican angel that I met in a ladies church group. We were both single and loved to worship and pray together. She does so with a passionate abandonment. Her beautiful smile and infectious laughter lights up every room she enters. She has a wild and crazy side she unleashes with her family and closest friends. She loves to cook for all of us....bonus friend. I was matron of honor at her wedding. It was my honor. When I am at my lowest, and I need a prayer warrior, she is my go to person. Always.
And then there is Gloria. A fellow nursing instructor. We share our deepest hurts and wounds and thoughts. We share our love for our students. We share our love for our country and our political leanings. We have been on marvelous adventures together (getting lost in and around Austin, Texas while trying to find new routes to avoid traffic.) She has always been in my corner, believing the best in me, and calling me out when necessary. She gets me and still loves me. I hate that I will be moving away from her, but she has promised to visit and I know she will because she loves to travel!
The Creator must have known that this Gemini girl needed this kind of comforting love and compassionate stability when I was blessed with these wonderful angels. I'm forever grateful!
