Lola’s note in the little black book
The magic of words

It’s 2017 on a very grey day. Sunday to be more exact. The city is quiet. And not because COVID but because people are actually resting on a Sunday.
In Moon Light Event Centre the party is just getting started with a great personal development seminar. Everybody is excited for the day ahead and the vibes are high.
Mark is here as everyone else: to work on his personal growth, maybe something he will hear on the stage will bring a great insight or an epiphany that will transform his life.
He has been through a very rough few years: his wife has left him and he has been sleeping in the car for the past weeks, lost and confused, not knowing how he could get so low, so far away from everything he has dreamt of becoming? He managed to keep his job, that he didn’t love but he had to be able to at least provide food and clothing for himself. This seminar is a ray of hope for Mark.
Everyone else seems pretty damn happy with their life and everyone seems to have found the magic recipe for success. Except Mark.
The music is great and everyone is clapping for the fun on the stage. People seem to be captivated.
Mark seems to be in two different states at the same time: he seems absorbed by the stage & also so clear and quiet on the inside.
Keeps thinking about the contest: “many people would like to win the 20k. For me it would be like a sign from the Universe that I am still worth something. I believe I am still worth something.” He tells himself.
He gets distracted by some pink turquoise tiny wings that nobody else seems to notice. He is rather surprised finding himself smiling because the beautiful appearance of this tiny creature.
“I’m Lola. The Fairy” says the tiny creature moving her gorgeous wings really fast.
Mark is mesmerised. Is he actually hearing the Fairy or whatever the little creature was?
Fairy Lola gets closer to him and covering her tiny face, whispers something in Marks right ear.
In a second Mark takes his little black book out of his old leather bag and writes something down.
“What am I supposed to do with this?“ he asks the Fairy.
“Just read it once out loud and then just forget about it” the Fairy says.
Not at all what Mark had expected from this personal development event. Excited, confused and a bit feeling crazy about what just happened, Mark leaves the event and goes to his car.
“Of course I did not win the 20k. What was I even thinking? That I have seen a Fairy who told me how to win? How could I be so crazy?” Mark thinks when he sees the announcement with the winner two weeks later.
In his discouragement, Fairy Lola appears.
More confused than ever, Mark starts to discuss his own sanity or lack of sanity with the Fairy.
“I can’t believe I let myself be fooled by you? And now I am even a bigger fool telling you all this - a Fairy. “ Mark shouts.
Fairy Lola smiles and seems to enjoy Marks rage and honesty.
“What is it exactly that you are mad about right now? The fact that you did not win or the fact that you put your trust in a Fairy?” Lola asks.
“I am mad because I really needed the money. And I am mad for raising my hopes based on something a Fairy told me. I mean? Am I so desperate that I ended up listening or believing in a Fairy?”. Mark replied.
“Aha. So you are not mad at me, but you are mad at yourself for believing so less in your self worth that you ended up believing in something that only some kids believe in?” the Fairy clarifies.
“I am mad for being so desperate. For being so low in my life. For being so confused. How did I allow myself to loose myself so bad?” Mark sobs.
“Can you please read to me what I have told you that day? Do you still have your little black book with you?” the Fairy asked.
“It’s right here.” while showing the Fairy the little black book.
“This is what you said: “Infinite Universe, please open the doors for the 20k to come into my life at the perfect time, in perfect way by Divine Grace. Thank you, Mark.”.
The Fairy looks deep into his wet eyes and says: “ The Universe is never late to deliver. And by the way, because you were broken and confused and lost you were able to hear my words and see my beauty.”. And she takes off.
His mind is confused. Peaceful but confused. For a moment he feels full. He feels enough. He feels like he is right where he needs to be.
His phone rings.
“Is this Mark?” the voice says at the other end.
“This is he.” Mark replies. “How May I help?”.
“Oh Mark, it’s Tim from the contest. In fact I hope this news will help YOU. It has been an error with the contest and we know we have said Steve is the winner of the 20k. But in fact, it’s you Mark. You are the winner. Congratulations! “.
Mark sobs. And smiles.
