Living the Virgo Life

A little self reflection is good for the soul

By Jennifer WedglePublished 5 years ago 3 min read

I am a Virgo through and through. All bare feet, mud-soaked toes and earth mama vibe wrapped up and wound tight with strings of boardroom organization and CEO perfectionism. My heart and my intentions are always easy to find since I wear them on my sleeve, but my fashion sense leans practical and I believe firmly in wearing layers. So, while what you see is always what you get with me, your view may change depending on how sharp your eyes are, and how deep you’re willing to look.

As a Virgo, I’m in a tight relationship with the truth. My honesty is unwavering and you can always count on me to spit it, not spin it. Sugar coatings aren’t my style, so if you ask for it, be prepared to hear it. I am the place you go to hear what you need, not what you want and I expect the same in return. The quickest way to lose my respect and be shown the exit is to be less than truthful.

I’m an extremely passionate person, although most never get the chance to bask in the full glory of that (layers, remember). There isn’t one thing I do that isn’t carefully weighed out and mulled over with a complete risk assessment done in triplicate. I don’t do anything if I’m going to put less than 100% of myself into it. It may take a while, but once I decide to jump in, I am the very definition of an OG ride or die. Whether it’s a relationship, a job, or what I deem a worthy cause, I go all in, and I go in hard. It takes an overwhelming amount of BS to get me to give up something once I’ve committed, but if pushed too hard, don’t think for a moment that I’ll hesitate to walk away without so much as a single glance over my shoulder. I have a scorched earth policy for just such occasions. I don’t just burn the bridge, I stoke the flames high enough to leave nothing standing for at least the next two zip codes.

It would be impossible for anyone to be as hard on me as I am on myself. Which on the up side, makes the everyday slings and arrows that come my way much less painful in comparison. I have exceptionally high standards and while I try to offer encouragement to those around me, it often comes across as overly critical and bossy. While I may never obtain perfection, I sure as hell won’t stop trying to get there, and have no problems asking you to kindly step aside if you can’t keep up. I’m an excellent teacher with an endless amount of patience for those who try, but if I feel you're giving less than your best, I can be impatient and harsh. My sarcasm and wit can bring you to tears, from laughter or pain, the choice is usually yours.

The Virgo in me is fiercely independent, and most times I end up doing twice the work because I can’t and won’t ask for help. And yes, you will be made very aware of my martyr status, probably often and alot. I’m a firm believer that any job worth doing is worth doing right, and that usually means doing it my way. I hate saying ‘I told you so’ but…

There are few things in this world I love more than implementing organization. Post-It notes, highlighters, planners and calendars are a shortcut to getting on my good side. Structure is the home where my happy thoughts reside. There is nothing I enjoy more or find more satisfying than turning confusion into order. While I love to appear carefree and wild, my chaos is always controlled.

When it comes to romance, I am not, nor will I ever be one for public displays of affection. I appreciate things from a partner that let me know I’m thought of, and that consideration is something that will always be handsomely rewarded. I appreciate small, private gestures over grand displays. I am fully and completely an Earth sign, the meaning and intensity of which is often underestimated. Just under the surface of this seemingly cool, calm exterior lies rivers of molten rock. The Earth may have a great reputation for stability and reliability, but, no one ever forgets their first earthquake.

A Virgo by your side may not make life any easier, but they will make it better. Or at the very least more organized. Very, very organized.
