Out of This World Science TED Talks
As Bill Nye (who needs to make TED Talks) once told us, "Science rules!" Everything runs on science, for it programs the universe around us to follow a set order and logic. But what if there are rules and concepts that we do not yet understand? What if, at the bottom of the ocean and the apex of existence, there are things so other-worldly that they sound as though they emerged straight from a phantasmic dreamscape? Too crazy to be real. Too insane. But they are. The ordinary person may go mad trying to wrap their mind around these mind-screwy concepts and ideas. But rest assured; your existential dread and horror need not overwhelm you. There are experts willing to explain it all. These TED Talks put the strangest science into focus, and explain that, yes, while our universe is a weird place, it is not beyond our understanding.

Beyond the Colony (Part One)
The boys had just turned eighteen and part of the celebration was taking the walk. It was the first time the boys were allowed to walk around outside of the colony. Not that it was that special in a city of millions lots of kids turned eighteen every day. Walking out into the tunnels around the city was both an honor and a duty. It was part of guarding the colony from outside intruders. Wars were infrequent, started only when one colony drilled or tunneled into another. When this happened the colonies involved would negotiate with each other about how the space would be used. Wars would occur only when the colonies that were involved could not agree on how the space would be used. The boys were from the colony of Denver. They have had several wars with the Great Salt lake colony. Denver colony usually gave in to the demands of the Great Salt Lake colony. But that was because the Salt Lake colony had vast amounts of resources such as Salt and other metals and minerals that the colony needed to survive.

Alien Summer
When down and out Jim Cherry wakes up in an alley in New York in the summer of '98, little does he know that the future of the world may well fall on his shoulders. Finding a free health check leaflet in his pocket, he heads off for a consultation with Consultant Surgeon Louis Dourner who diagnoses him with terminal cancer. Is this the end? Apparently not. Dourner offers Jim a lifeline. If he signs up with Section 16 of the US Army Medical Corps his cancer will be cured... But who is Doctor Louis Dourner and exactly what is the purpose of Section 16? Stripped of his whiskey and cigarettes, sixty-two-year-old Jim saddles up with a doomed desert reconnaissance mission to find out.

For many of us in the scientific community that study biology, chemistry, astrobiology, etc, this is Wonderland. Thoughts and questions are added and manipulated in our brains like ingredients of a gourmet stew. And we are ready to eat.

The Artist
Her eyelids blinked as light poured in through her optical sensors. As part of her startup sequence, she analyzed her internal system functions. Her initialization confirmed that she was operating within optimal parameters. She sat at her charging station next to the diagnostic display unit in an underground laboratory which was also her room. Sitting across from her was Doctor Michael Kobayashi. His silver white hair was neatly combed and parted to one side. He watched her as her eyes opened and her face came to life. She lifted her head and returned his smile. "Doctor, good morning," she said. Her voice was smooth and sensual.
