Glass Through Mirrors
I never knew a set of doors could be so scary, like a give-you-nightmares-for-months type of scary. Who would have thought a slab of mahogany could be so frightening? Terrifying even. I guess it wasn't the doors themselves that scared me; it was what lay behind the doors that scared me. My new life. My new scary, dangerous, humiliating life.

Hostility-1
It’s been three days since she’s seen her family, or at least she thinks it has been three days. She isn’t sure of a lot of things these days. She remembered the time she was sure Scott Hamilton was flirting with her in world history, but it turned out that he flirted with a lot of people. Turned out he was bisexual and flirtation was his natural demeanor. She remembered when she was sure that Hedgewater wouldn’t win the election—after all, the popular vote was in Elliot’s favor—but he won. She was absolutely, positively sure her little brother was okay four days ago— was it four days or five? She couldn’t remember.

Let's Talk About Dun(e)can Idaho
The Duniverse (that is, the Dune Universe), whose life began with the publication of Frank Herbert's original masterpiece in 1965, is a lush wonderland of possibilities, despite its arid world of inception. One character in particular single-handedly explores a majority of those possibilities on his own: Duncan Idaho. I have never had the great pleasure of looking at Mr. Herbert's original manuscripts, so I cannot tell you exactly when Herbert decided that Duncan Idaho, not “the Atreides,” was the main character of his Dune books. But rest assured that he is, and any further reading by anyone who has not finished the main Dune series (that is up through the end of Sandworms of Dune) will be riddled with spoilers.
