'Doctor Who - The Iron Legion' Review
When Doctor Who Magazine started in 1979, one of the first things that creator and founding editor Dez Skinn introduced was the comic strip; which depicted the ongoing adventures of The Doctor, (played by Tom Baker) outside the TV series. And, 40 years later, that comic strip is still ongoing, now depicting the adventures of Jodie Whitaker's Doctor. Over the 40 years of the magazine's existence, the strip has gone through many changes, (changes in editors and art style, changing from black-and-white to color, the ongoing regeneration of the actor playing The Doctor), but the heart has remained very much the same. And, having now read this collection of strips from the early days of the magazine, I can see why these strips are talked about with such reverence. The Iron Legion collection features some of the most interesting ideas ever seen in a Doctor Who story, some larger than life characters and a wonderful art style thanks to Dave Gibbons, and it is a fantastic read.

Howlers
We ran hastily through the forest, our bare feet scratching and being stuck, like a pig, by any rock, twig or pointy object below us. We wouldn't be running if Carl hadn’t sneezed, god damn Carl, we told him what would happen if he made too much noise. They’ll come, and people will die. I heard them behind us, the Howlers were gaining on us, and I knew it, the rest of the tribe new it, some of us wouldn’t make it through the night. Georgie and I ran side by side, we were the fastest, and ahead of the rest. A shrill, familiar howl filled the air and we knew that meant they were right on our tails. I started to pick up their sounds, louder and louder, closer and closer, as leaves and twigs crumbled loudly under the howlers mighty legs.

Life and Production S3 E12: Blast II
Snow and soot combined to make ashen clumps which collected outside of the hall. The flash grenades only caused a fire which the fire robots sought to extinguish. Pandemonium ensued upon the first detonation of the explosives. It appeared as if all of the occupants had exited the premises safely. But there was still no word on Pappy, Preston, and Symphony. Trevor and Saffron Lesane huddled behind a cart which was prepared to issue food items for the banquet after the presentation. Now, it served as an impromptu clinical apparatus to address the scrapes and bruises that some of the laureates and audience members sustained. Though not a physician, or a doctor of any kind, Lesane could identify and administer aid to those with injuries. Lesane dealt with his wife’s ankle, ensuring that it was not sprained or broken. “I think it’s sprained,” he said.

The Voyager Golden Record: Humanity's Soft Place to Land
There's an X-Files poster on my bedroom door. You know the one: a grainy photo of a UFO blown up against a canopy of pine trees with "I WANT TO BELIEVE" written in block letters across the bottom. TheX-Files poster. And while I deign to admit it, I'm a poser. I've seen maybe 10 full episodes of the show (and read the two fun YA prequels about teenage Scully and Mulder solving crimes in the 70s) and have no intention of continuing. Serialized media and my commitment issues aren't the best combination. But still, that poster has been on my door for two years and will continue to remain there in the future.

Ways of Worship: Dionysus
Dionysus is the God of religious ecstasy, winemaking, wine, ritual madness, grape harvest, fertility, and theatre. His parents are Zeus and Semele, the Princess of Thebes. His wife is Ariadne, the daughter of King Midas. The two met on the island of Naxos after Theseus left her stranded there. Dionysus' Roman form is Bacchus. He is one of the 12 Olympians and the last God to be added. It's said that Hestia was originally an Olympian, but stepped down when Dionysus came to Olympus to keep the peace between the other Olympians and her family.

Life and Production: S3 E11: Blast
The laureates of the Dr. Marie Maynard Daly Prize convened on a snowy evening in February. From sculpture to martial arts to dance and poetry, the prizes represented the best in each recipient and inspired onlookers. For the prizes in medicine and business, only one name arose above all others: Trevor Lesane. As far as mathematics were concerned, the central figure in the Daly Prize committee’s selection process had to be Saffron Lesane. “For her extraordinary work in educating students,” Saffron was said to be “the chief developer in building the mathematical minds of tomorrow.” At least that is what the placard read. It could hardly describe the exemplary efforts of Dr. Saffron Lesane. This pair accepted the honor of receiving prizes as the first husband and wife to claim the Daly Prize in the same year. The Lesanes also received the notice via a videophone message that they had been selected for the prizes. Each laureate acquired the invitation to the ceremony in December. A feat this year, Lesane’s dual laurels represented what was possible when excellence was applied to every endeavor.

Home? (Chapter 14)
Thousand eyes are staring at me. I don't know what to do. Should I step forward and call them, make them notice me? They have already seen me enter and I'm scared I won't be able to turn back. I don't say anything for a while, everything seems surrounded by a cloud of silence that is impossible to break, and it makes me uncomfortable. The eyes don't blink, they simply watch me quietly, undecided. Am I an enemy, an intruder? Or am I a trustworthy individual? So as to not cause any undesired response, I remain as still and quiet as possible and my breathing seems to be the only thing betraying the silence. However, standing there for several minutes without moving proves to be a harder task than I had anticipated. I finally decide to go ahead and call them out. Why are you here and should I be here?

Both manicures and pedicures were financed with the support of her intricate heroin empire. Quintasia Batt, a 23-year-old impresaria held the Northeast Atlantic in the grip of her hand. She headed her company with the wit and tenacity usually reserved for military generals. Quintasia mastered the game of persuasion and the finer tactics in conversing with possible business partners. One such prospect was Trevor Lesane.
