I nitpick and I know it
Why I didn't like "The Mandalorian"

Is my opinion unpopular? Oh I know it is. I ranted to the poor guy at the comic book store so long that I almost lost my voice. Before someone thinks I hate the show, the truth it I thought it was well written. For what we got it was good. However even as a little kid watching "Empire Strikes Back" on TV, I always thought Boba Fett was the cooler character. Who was he? What was his story? Mysteries are sometimes better off staying...well mysterious. So when Boba's back story was revealed in Episode Two and the Clone Wars series I was like "Okay it's about time to sort of flesh him out as a character" and they did a good job so why do I suddenly not like the Mandalorian? Well spoilers are going to be a part of this but if you're reading this you've likely watch the show. I'll try not to turn this into an editorial or a rant but no promised from this point.
Once again spoilers are ahead. Watch the show despite not liking it I still think everyone should see it to come to their own conclusions from new fans to those of us who have read way too many Star Wars books. Okay. First off the main thing. The Child. Yeah I'm sure you saw that coming. Is it cute? Yes, but I didn't want cute. I think my main issue with the Child is that it is a distraction. I wanted to learn more about Mandalorian culture and beliefs. Instead just when it is getting interesting it veers off the course I wanted straight into a large toy commercial. I'm a 90's kid. I know when something is being marketed and look around how many Mando plush toys do you see? Not many but the Child's face is everywhere. Okay Disney needs to make their money (despite the show being on Disney +) I get that I really do but it is so distracting.
Another issue with this is that if you switched Mando with any other bounty hunter from Dengar to Valance would the story would've been that different? I don't think so but that's my opinion. For a show called "The Mandalorian" we don't get a lot of Mandalorian. Mandalorians, according to other media were trained to be able to fight Jedi. When I first heard about the show I thought "Wow maybe they're going back to the Mandalorian wars or maybe it'll take place in Sundari before Satine Kryze and we'll FINALLY see that saga between her and Obi Wan (don't know what I'm talking about? Watch Clone Wars. Awesome show). We didn't get that. I also thought "Oh maybe this'll take place after that Rebels' episode showing Bo Katan taking up the mantle as leader of Mandalore (again). That didn't happen either. It's just there were so many places in time to stick this story but they chose after the Empire's defeat. "Okay." I thought. "That's not what I expected but maybe they'll still have Bo Katan and everything else I wanted..." That didn't happen.
Okay I didn't get what I wanted. I'm not going to pitch a fit over a show. I'm a big girl I'll watch it and see what it is about (see above) and okay well written, deserves some hype, not all the hype I'm hearing but still deserves it for mentioning things like Mandalorian isn't just a race, it's a culture. You don't have to be born in the Mandalore System to be Mandalorian. Great they got that right so this is nice they point that out.
Then came the last episode of the season. At the end I just sat in my friend's living room. He knows I'm a HUGE Boba Fett and Mandalore fan but he had never seen Clone Wars or Rebels so here is random Imperial guy holding the dark saber. The. Dark. Saber. My friend is like "Wow what's that black sword?" He said my eyes looked "angry" just my eyes though. I guess I was that upset because to me that meant a few things. It meant Mandalore, a planet who is no stranger to war to the point where the plants have not grown back on the planet's surface, fell? The Empire won against them? After that Rebels episode that showed Bo Katan was leader (again) and that there was hope for the system...it just fell? If he had the dark saber that means Bo Katan is either dead or lost control of the planet. Again. The one time they FINALLY reference past events it's showing Death Watch saving Mando as a kid and the Dark Saber. It didn't even look great but not going to blame anyone for that, how do you make a black light saber that has only been seen in CGI look good? I honestly don't know.
Am I nitpicking? Oh I know I am but if you liked the show, enjoy it as you should because there is one thing I will say about this show. The people involved care. This isn't Disney trying to make a few bucks you can tell this is a passion project and I hate that I didn't like it. I tried to like it. It's just amazing how quickly you can go from "Well this is okay" to "How dare they...?!" Do I have fan-scripts? You bet I do but I'm too self conscious at this time to share them with the world. With season 2 coming out soon, do I plan on watching it? Despite my nitpicks, yes. Yes I am. Why? Because it is still a well written show and I get bored. Do I like this show? Not enough to buy the merchandise. If people ask me if I recommend it, oddly enough I'll still say yes because they don't nitpick as badly as I do.
