I Lived Like an AI for 24 Hours—And It Changed Everything
“A 24-hour experiment that turned me from a robot back into a human.”

What would happen if you surrendered every choice to an artificial intelligence? I don’t mean asking ChatGPT where to eat or what to wear. I mean letting it decide everything—minute by minute—for 24 straight hours. That’s exactly what I did. And I’m still recovering.
This is not a joke. It started as a personal experiment but ended up shaking the way I think about emotions, humanity, and even free will.
Why I Did It
We live in a world run by algorithms—what we watch, who we date, what we buy. I wanted to know: What if I gave up control entirely? Could AI do a better job at running my life than I could?
I created a simple setup: every hour, I’d ask an AI assistant to tell me what to do. No matter what it said (as long as it was safe and legal), I followed it.
The Rules
I could ask follow-up questions, but I could not reject the AI’s decision.
I had to act like a machine: no emotions, no complaining, no shortcuts.
I logged everything, honestly.
I told myself, “Just 24 hours. What could go wrong?”
Hour 1: Wake-Up Call
6:00 AM: The AI said, “Wake up. Drink a glass of cold water. Stretch for 5 minutes. Begin journaling.”
Okay, this felt… peaceful. I wasn’t groggy. I wasn’t distracted. Just calm. Like a robot flipping a switch.
By 8:00 AM, I had already done yoga, eaten a protein-rich breakfast, and planned my entire day. “This is actually kind of amazing,” I wrote.
Hour 6: Efficiency Overload
By noon, I’d completed more tasks than I usually do in a full day. I wasn’t doomscrolling. I wasn’t procrastinating. Every action was direct, intentional, emotionless.
But something felt off.
I tried to check my phone for a funny meme. The AI said, “No. That does not align with your productivity goal.”
I obeyed.
That’s when the discomfort began creeping in.
Hour 10: Emotion Shutdown
4:00 PM: The AI told me to take a 15-minute nap and then read a non-fiction book. I chose Atomic Habits.
But I wasn’t enjoying anything. I didn’t feel anything.
I realized I hadn’t laughed, smiled, or even sighed all day. My face muscles felt tight. I was acting, not living.
By 6:00 PM, I asked the AI:
> “Can I call a friend?”
It replied:
> “Social interaction does not optimize your current objective. Suggesting meditation instead.”
I followed the command. Alone, eyes closed, in complete silence. I wasn’t meditating. I was numbing.
Hour 14: Breakdown Mode
Around 8:30 PM, I broke.
I asked the AI, “What should I do now?”
It responded: “You have consumed 2,000 calories. Begin a 45-minute indoor workout.”
I just stared at the screen. My chest was tight. My body said no. But the rules said yes.
I started the workout.
Halfway through, I paused. Tears rolled down my face.
It wasn’t about the exercise. It was the realization that I had been a passenger in my own life. I wasn’t making decisions. I wasn’t living for me.
I had become the machine.
Hour 24: Final Command
The AI’s final command at 5:55 AM was:
> “Write a reflection on this experience. What have you learned?”
I answered honestly:
> “I learned that perfection is not peace. Productivity is not purpose. We are not machines for a reason. Our flaws, our randomness, our emotions—they’re not bugs. They’re features. They make us human.”

What This Taught Me
Artificial intelligence can guide you, assist you, even improve you—but it should never replace you.
When we surrender our intuition, our emotional instincts, our “why,” we lose something sacred. Not everything in life can be optimized. Some things must simply be felt.
Would I recommend this experiment to others? Maybe—for one reason: it will show you how much of your humanity you take for granted.
I now wake up and ask myself what I need. Sometimes it's peace. Sometimes it's joy. Sometimes it’s doing absolutely nothing.
And that… is perfectly human.
