The sound of the train arrived at the station. At that time, Zack called Jack to tell him something important that humanity should know. They met at Starbucks over coffee. Zack started his speech with a long-time no-see. Jack greeted him warmly. They are both deeply interested in Science. Sit there and hang out for a few hours until you get to an interesting topic.
Zack asked Jack, Do you know? You can make money in space.
He told his friend about the factors that can make profit in space. And the story begins. The greatest gift is something we already have on earth, which is water. In these decades Asteroids are a threat to the Earth. This danger is getting closer when there is evidence in 1990 that an asteroid of at least 10 kilometers in diameter fell in the Gulf of Mexico 66 million years ago.
Have you ever heard of the Chicxulub asteroid playing a big role in the extinction of the dinosaurs? And as a result, we now have fossils that turn into oil and directly into money. This is also one of the factors you want to get rich.
But in 2013 in February there was an asteroid called 2012 DA14 passed near the earth. Even very close to the communication satellites orbiting our planet. But luckily, some astronomers worry it will be a big threat. In the middle of talking about outer space.
Jack raised his eyebrows. So when do you want to be rich? You talk about outer space and being wealthy on Earth but not in space. Be honest or I'll leave here. He looked at his face thinking this was a waste of time. Jack got up from the chair but was stopped by his friend. He held his arm and said to him "Come in here. Be patient. Why are you so upset" he sat back in his chair
Zack continued his story earlier, well we can start with the mining industry. Have to find a way to exploit modern technology. This is an opportunity, not a crisis. Deep Space Industries claimed that 2012 DA14 brought natural resources worth 195 billion. Space miners are unable to exploit asteroids. Technology at that time was not advanced enough. So the book by just looking at the asteroid passed the planet Earth and disappeared far into space.
Jack interrupted Zack's conversation and asked him. So DSI claims there are natural resources in asteroids? What's in it?
Just like what is on earth. Asteroid has metals important to the technology industry. However, it is difficult for manufacturers to get technology resources that may run out in a few years, such as Indium, Neodymium, and many more.
However, 2012 DA14 is estimated to cost 65 billion dollars for the water. Most importantly, water is very expensive to deliver to our planet. Because of this, the natural resources in space are so valuable.
Then, water is very useful in the space industry. Break down the elements and it can be fuel for rockets. In its natural state, it acts as a shield and radiation for astronauts in space such as on Mars and other planets. Then, astronauts certainly cannot live long without it.
A few years ago, mining in space might have sounded hard to believe. But in 2014, the European Space Agency's Rosetta successfully landed on the 4-kilometer-wide 67P/ Churyumov-Gerasimenko Comet, showing it could. Small asteroids and comets travel through the solar system.
In 2015, engineers announced a realistic way to mine water from asteroids. They think they can use a technique called an optical mine to take 100-110 tons of water out of the asteroid into a large bag where it can be taken to a space station on Earth. What's interesting is that this approach requires a one-time trip using the Space X Falcon 9 Rocket, making it even cheaper. To mine water in space.
So what's your plan to get rich using space? Your story sounds not impossible but it requires a lot of manpower. He told him what he thought.
Zack smiled.
It's true what you said. But with the rise of technology getting more advanced and AI becoming our big helper, this thing may happen. It's just that sometimes we forget that getting rich is not easy. But, anyway, thank you for listening to my story. I hope we will meet again in the future.
Eventually, they both left and continued their lives like everyone else.
