Chapter 11 Bankruptcy-Del Monte
Del Monte has filed for Chapter 11 bankrutcy protection. The company is seeking a buyer for its assets and has secured a nine hundred and twelve, point five million in financing to support operations during the bankruptcy process.
Del Monte is a 139 year old company that was found back in 1886. It is an American food and distribution company and a subsidiary of Del Monte Pacific Limited, a multi-national food and beverage group. The canned goods giant is volunatily filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and looking to sell its company to a new owner.
While Del Monte foods is owned by Del Monte Pacific Limited which has roots in Singapore and the Philippines. They were acquired by Del Monte Pacific in 2014. However, Del Monte products are branded within the United States.
What Caused The Company To Fail
The company cited that they filed for bankruptcy protection due to a decline in consumer demand for canned goods, impacting Del Monte's core product line.
This might or might not have to do with the Covid 19 pandemic, and or the agin population.
Inventory Management Issues
The company expanded production during the Covid 19 pandemic to meet anticpicated demand, but when the demand decreased post-pandemic, they were left with excess inventory that they had to sell at a loss, or store at a high price. This caused a loss of revenue.
High Debt Load
Del Monte has a significant amount of debt, partly due to the 2014 acquisition by Del Monte Pacific Limited (DMPL).
The pandemic just added to the high debt load.
Increased Costs
Rising costs for raw materials, (like steel for cans), transportation and interest rates have further squeezed profit margins.
Competition From Private Label Brands
Reatilers have been increasing their own store brands, offering cheaper alternatives to Del Monte products.
Restructuring Efforts
Del Monte has been trying to restructure its debt and operations, but these efforts have not been enough to overcome the challenges.
Seeking A Sale
The bankruptcy filing is part of a process to sell the companies assets, and hopefully continue operations under new mangement.
What Do You Think of Del Monte's Bankruptcy ??
Do You See Del Monte Canned Foods In Your Country???
If so, what country do you live in? If you live in the United States, did you used to buy Del Monte canned fruits and vegetables? I grew up eating Del Monte's canned foods. My mother always said, with food always buy named brands. Of course I tried the store brands, but they seemed to be substandard to the name brands. They appeared to have spots on fruit and they appeared not to have the same taste as the name brands. The name brands seemed to taste better, at least to me.
What brand do you buy at the grocery store, and if you do not live in the United States, it would be interesting to learn what brands you consider name brands in your country, and where are the companies located? Also, what name grocery stores, do you have in your country. I know that we are having some German name grocery stores popping up here in Dover, Delaware, such as Aldi and Lidl. They are relatively new here in the Dover area, and only time will tell how they will succeed. Lidl has been operating in the United States since 2017 and currently operates 170 stores across nine East Coast states and Washington DC. Aldi, has been in the United States since 1976, when they opened their first store in Iowa. They have now grown to 2.400 stores in 38 states.
Do You Buy Del Monte's Fruits and Vegetables???
What Company do you think is next??
We are headed towards the year 2030, what do you think will happen? Is the prediction of ITR economics right???

Still see it around here. Don't buy it due to the fact it feels dirty between your teeth when you eat it. Plus frozen, preferably fresh though, is way better for you
It was a very popular item on shelves in the 80s! Sad to hear this...
