Convenience isn't always better.

Did we ruin society with technology, or did we make it better?

It's been 43 years since we were blessed with the internet- or is it we were cursed with it? There are roughly equal pros and cons with the internet being a blessing and a curse.

Technology has come along way in 40 years. From enhanced communication, boosted efficiency, and advanced healthcare. Technology gives better access to information and better education. Technology has driving economy to grow at a much faster rate.

All of this leads to a longer lifespan, greater connectivity, and improved living standards through innovations from agriculture to the internet.

All of this is fantastic for humanity, but of course, everything has a consequence, good or bad.

So, what are the consequences of the internet?

You don't need a Google search for this one, to be honest.

The Cons of the internet/ technology:

  1. Humans rely on technology too much. Even though, as a pro, technology has come a long way and has improved humanity significantly. But outside of the improvemnts humans no longer can step away from it because technology is everywhere. From our phones to our cars, even order fast food.
  2. Social media ruins relationships. In many ways, social media has brought people closer. It's a lot easier to find that friend you haven't seen since high school and reconnect. Sometimes life takes us in different directions, and you have to move across the country or even overseas. So, social media helps keep people together even when they are miles apart. We also have dating apps, which also changed the dating world. BUUUUUUT unfortunately, this topic does get out of hand. It's now easier for people to know your every move. Humans, for some strange reason, feel the need to share every single detail of their lives. Why? How can Humans be at the top of the food chain but give out everything about their personal lives? It's become easier for us to turn to social media when we are in trouble and dumb enough to listen to the people on the internet. Instead of communicating and fixing our relationships, we hide. Social media was supposed to increase communication and bring people closer, but it has done the opposite.
  3. Education is way too easy with it being at our fingertips. In many ways, this is great. Having information at our fingertips in many ways is convenient. Emergancy? No worries, do a quick Google search. In many ways, that's great. It helps determine if you need to go to the hospital, urgent care or if you can do some remedies at home. Something plumbing and furnace. Do I need to call someone, or is something silly and I can easily fix it myself? So, what is the problem then? The problem is that, yes, you can find everything on the internet, but people tend to believe that just researching something on the internet makes them better than the person who went out and received a degree in that field of study. The internet is meant as a guide, to enhance our life not to take over our lives.
  4. Economy. Before you ask, "How is this a con?" Look around. AI is everywhere. Mind you Technology has improved our economy for the better, but what does that mean for the humans? Technology has gone in to take over the jobs that are too difficult or dangerous for humans to do. In many ways, that's great! Fewer workplace injuries. What's the problem? We're not just using technology for the more difficult and dangerous jobs; we are using it in literally everything. We use it in cars: Why learn to parallel park when you can push a button, and the car can do it for you? Why pay an artist for something AI can do in a fraction of the time? Why have 5 cashiers at McDonald's when you can have self-serve stands? How can we lower costs? Easy. Replace humans with technology.

What does this mean? Where is technology going to be in 50 years? Especially when it has come this far in 50 years. At this point, technology is running the world, and there's nothing humans can do. It's become an addiction.
