How can we combat climate change while ensuring sustainable economic development?

The world today is heavily reliant on utilizing energy to sustain productivity. Every individual depends on energy to continue working and living. Our prosperity and well-being depend on ever-greater amounts of energy.

Without energy supply, experts believe that economic growth will not be there as well. This is how important this topic has been. This has been a long-standing and important issue for all developed and developing countries alike.

Energy Comes at a cost.

Non-renewable energy emissions cause climate change. Just like a double-edged sword, it hurts the environment while maintaining and even raising living standards. Maintaining that balance and even eliminating that risk will take a massive effort. Emission reduction of a worldly scale and speed require a very rapid transition in energy, industry, and consumption. Emissions in all of the business and economic sectors must be virtually eliminated within the next few decades if we would even hope to make a lasting improvement.

Government's contribution on the topic.

Governments have committed to climate action by increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewables such as Solar and wind. But it's not enough. Despite the growth of these renewable energies, reports still show that global emissions increased and reached a record high.

Experts and economists very strongly believe that we need to be looking at all clean energy technologies to make the most of these options. Future low-carbon energy systems must produce far more clean electricity. Including transport and industry. Countries will also need reliable, low-carbon power to back up renewables when there is no sunshine and wind.

Thoughts on Nuclear energy.

Nuclear plays a key role by being the baseload resource that ensures resilient and reliable energy sourcing. For some countries, nuclear power has already helped decarbonize electricity production and drive economic development.

We have energy production that is already at the level expected by future standards, simply because of the complementarity between nuclear, hydro, and a small portion of new energies such as solar and wind.

Each country's stand is diversified.

Still, shifting to a low-carbon energy system remains challenging. It requires balancing the complex interplay between energy, economy, and environment. Countries must plan their transition based on projected needs, but also based on the availability and adequacy of these energy resources. Clearly not every country has an interest in including nuclear energy as part of their energy mix. But once a country has decided to go for it, they need to start planning and implementing it at the very beginning. Steps should not be skipped and shortcuts must not be taken. That is the only way to optimize how we are going to achieve this transition towards cleaner electricity and energy.

Conclusion

In the end, we always circle back to the same topic and discuss the same ideas. Every modern economy and individual relies heavily on energy to survive. Demand for energy is nearing a terrible imbalance against supply. Our thirst for gaining more energy treads on dangerous waters.

There are already alternative solutions to gain energy but still to this very day, the uptake of shifting to a hybrid energy source that incorporates clean and green energy is very slow. We need to further everyone's knowledge and build a behavior where everyone has greater awareness of this topic. Going beyond, countries need to help each other in planning their clean energy transition. Including a better understanding of each and every energy source's role in helping to mitigate climate change and achieve sustainable development.
