Soul Inferno

Inferno Gaze

The Moon shone in through shattered and broken down window pane. The sliver faded heart locket glistened against the stars. The ashes of what remained of a once prosperous city, swirled around outside in the evening breeze.

The ancient dystopians knew the cataclysm was apon them. The civilizations were creating their own destruction. Greed took over the nations, racism flooded the streets. All that remains intact, is a single heart shaped locket, faded from the years.

Inside is a picture of a young girl; smiling brightly, eyes shining with thoughts of the future. Beside her stands a young man, with his arm draped over her shoulder. His black hair covered his aqua blue eyes. His lips curled into a smirk, as if he knew what laid ahead.

The wind rattles the glass, and it falls to the floor in sparkling fragments, scattering into the bedroom that onced house a happy family.

They were raised during a time where homospaiens were judged for everything, from who they loved, to the color of their skin. Regardless, they remained happy, oblivious to what was happening outside their home.

Dust floats through the musky air; heavy with the scent of burnt wood. The stairway is broken and splintered leading to the second floor. Tattered and torn drapes flap gently with the breeze flowing through the shattered window.

The moon light illuminates the various cracks in the walls, and the broken doors laying hap-hazardly against the frames. The damage from when the cataclysm exploded was severe. The house was in unrecognizable shambles and disarray.

If history books remained, they would describe the event as catastrophic. Meteors fell from the sky, as nuclear plants were hit and exploded and various shock waves flooded the city.

Everything burned. Everything flooded. Electricity surged through the rolling waves brought in from the damns breaking.

The buildings on the outside of the city laid in piles of rubble and ash. The air was thick of with the smell of smoke.

The roads and highways were demolished and pummeled into dirt and sand. The various cars and truck were burnt to a crisp. Some of them still had smoke rising into the air.

In the very heart of the city, stood a single house, and inside laid on the floor was a young woman. Soot lined her face, and viens of embers flowed beneath her skin. Around her neck a faded silver heart locket hung.

She opened her eyes, and the blue inferno within shone bright. The one soul to survive the cataclysm. Her memories of the past millennium surged through her brain. Her legs spasmed and twitched. Her hair fell over face in ruby auburn waves. She coughed as air filled her lungs for the first time in a long time. The womans arms were stiff and burned as she tried to sit up and move.

Dust swirled in the air as she moved about trying to get her barings. Charcoal and ash clung to her ripped and tattered clothes, her bare feet black and burned from the flames. She hyperventilates not processing where she was or how she got there.

Loud sirens filled the silence as her memories go back and forth from past to present. Visions of a young man filled her vision as an explosion erupts. She grabs her head crying out in a roar.

The soul inside of her cries out too. The blue flamed soul. The surviving soul. The inferno soul. The soul has a name, a separate name from the woman it was residing in. The souls name was Onyx.

The woman's memories poured into her mind as she continued to cry out. There it was. The memory holding her identity. The very thing that made her, her. The name Raine. Azure Raine.
